Hello all, I am just after some advice, hints & tips.
I have just booked my first holiday abroad and alone with my son. I've been abroad loads of times but always with family, they have helped by navigating the airports, transfers and hotels for me. But its time to do this myself, I need some sun!
I'm anxious about the airport/transfer situation. Yes my son is nearly a teen and can help me with signposts and information boards etc should I get stuck. I just wonder others experiences, good & bad..
Please share your stories if you've done this?
I'm hard of hearing and use a cane in darkness/night situations.

Hello @Gadget9616 and welcome to the community, thank you for sharing how you are feeling about your upcoming holiday. How exciting that it's your first holiday alone with your son! Where are you off to?
I know that you can usually contact the airport or airline directly, should you need any assistance navigating or boarding/disembarking the plane.
Have you booked with a travel agents at all? If so, perhaps have a chat with them about how you are feeling, and ask about what support might be available to assist you if you feel you'd need it, both when you leave for your holiday and arrive at your destination.
It can be quite daunting doing something on your own for the first time, so I can completely understand why you are feeling anxious. I hope the community can be welcoming and supportive for you
Just to say I've edited the title of your post slightly so that the subject is easier to understand for everyone, I hope that's okay.
If you do have any questions then please just ask, and enjoy exploring the forum!

Thank you Alex for the message.
We are off to Alicante for a week. I am looking forward to it so much, its been years since I went away abroad and the past few years have tested my patience!
I booked online with jet2, but knowing they have branches local, I'll nip in and see them. The airport bit doesn't faze me, I've been in them loads so I know the general process ie check in, security etc.and my son is old enough to read the borders for me if I don't find a human in orange!
I don't know what assistance is avalible (as family have taken control in the past and just told me where I am heading) the transfer worries me as it will be dark when I land and when I leave, these are my main areas of concern.

Ahh brilliant, I think a lot of people are feeling the same way about taking a holiday after the last few years. I hope you both have a lovely time when you go!
Definitely chat to jet2 about transferring in the dark, I'm sure if they aren't able to help directly, they can get in touch with someone who is able to help. I'm glad there's a branch local to you, and that you are feeling comfortable about the airport too.
Keep us updated with how you get on when you can0 -
Hi, welcome to the community. How are you today? After check-in, I would also suggest going over to the assistance desk, as they would be able to arrange assistance disembarking the aeroplane, etc, for you. The desk is usually fairly easy to navigate too. They can also offer assistance getting to and from baggage claim, should you require it, in the dark and how you disembark, if it’s stairs, etc. if it is stairs, they usually send a transfer shuttle that connects to the aeroplane, so there is no need to take the stairs, should you require this.I hope this also helps.0
