Pip process!

17th June last year I applied on my 17 year old daughters behalf for pip. She had been dealing with pshycosis, for 2 years and on 27th August received a letter stating she could not be awarded pip due her living somewhere else for more than 1 year in the last 3 years (spent time with her dad in Ireland) this somewhere else other than Great Britain. I asked for a MR which was still refused in November. We then wanted to appeal it so on her birthday in December we received a letter explaining the DWP had changed their original decision and she was now entitled to claim pip which would all be backdated from 17th June. In January we had still not been sent the form, I then spent all of January and February of this year phoning them at least once a week for an update and getting no answers. Then end of February they sent the exact same letter as in August saying she was not entitled to claim which was distressing. I finally got to speak to someone helpful who apologised and said it was their fault for the delay, we then received the form around beginning of March, they have received it back on 6th April and apparently it is at the assessment centre so I don't know how much longer the wait will be, and in all this time my daughter spent 6 months of it in the hospital and now been diagnosed with Schizophrenia which affects her daily living, I have also had to give up work as she needs full time care leaving us in financial hardship, this process has been so stressful for my daughter and myself the whole system needs changing!

The daughter is 17 so this means that a PIP/DLA award can continue even after 28 days in hospital. If you are aged 18 or over, payments you get of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Attendance Allowance (AA) will stop after you have been in hospital for 28 days. If you are under 18 on the day you enter hospital, your DLA or PIP payments will not stop.

Hello @Lizzpp
Welcome to the community, I'm glad to see you join us and I hope you enjoy taking part here.
Sorry to hear of what you have been through, it sounds like it's been a long stressful process so far and I can only hope for a positive outcome for you and your daughter.
Regarding her mental health conditions, do you feel as though your daughter is well supported? And does she feel as though she is too? Do ensure that she speaks with her GP or medical team if she ever feels as though she needs further support to manage.
Have the local authority's social services team ever had any involvement with your daughter? Have they ever been able to conduct an assessment to see if she would be entitled to receive support from the community mental health team?1
