Hello, mobility issues & looking for specialist physio/ personal trainer please

Hi all, i'm new here, looking for some advice please...
My sister who has CP is now 48 and has always been pretty active/ independent in walking. However since lockdown, WFH & especially after getting the jab, she has had difficulty in moving her leg & moving around, even with an aid. As if her muscles in one leg have given in.
Doctors can't find anything obvious in leg xrays. So we're pushing for a back scan instead. (fingers crossed)
Out of curiosity has anyone been in a similar situation? Can this happen with wear/tear & impact of falling over the years?
Also, can anyone recommend a specialist physiotherapist & personal trainer in London that really understands CP and has the background knowledge to help clients with CP.
Thanks in advance!!

Hello there @zimidee and welcome to the online community, it's great to have you join us
Speaking from personal experience as someone with CP, I do find my mobility and balance is impacted if I don't keep up my stretches or the 'usual' amount of walking, so working from home has definitely had an impact, but I suspect it may also be the beginnings of something called 'Post Impairment Syndrome'.
I'd like to share a few resources which go into detail on the topic of CP and ageing, there's been plenty of discussion on the forum here:- There's this thread about CP potentially worsening with age
- Scope's information on the topic of ageing with cerebral palsy is also worth a read
- Our CP Information Officer @Richard_Scope explains Post Impairment Syndrome
- Here's a blog post on What Post Impairment Syndrome Means To Me, by one of our members
I can't recommend a physio/personal trainer myself, Adult CP Hub do have a professional directory which might be useful to have a look through.
I hope this is helpful for both you and your sister, but please do say if you're still unsure of anything.

Hi @Alex_Scope thanks for getting back to me.
Definitely news to me, thanks so much. Will certainly look into all the links you've provided & do some more research on it.
Many thanks.1 -
You're welcome @zimidee
I've also moved our post over into our Cerebral Palsy category, so that it's easier for our members to share their thoughts with you.0 -
Hi @zimidee
Thanks for your post and it's good to meet you.
My colleague @Alex_Scope has given you some very useful links to information. Your sister could ask her G.P. to refer her to the Cerebral Palsy Service at UCLH. Unfortunately, not many G.P.s are aware of it but I'm working hard to change that.
In terms of a PT with experience with CP, I can, from personal experience recommend, Inclusfit0
