What do you call the long item of clothing you wear on your bottom half that has a separate part for each leg?

    Trousers
I say 'trousers', but my partner says 'pants'. I think of that as a bit of an Americanism, though I do sometimes use 'pants' in certain contexts, such as 'cargo pants'.

Trousers always. If I hear pants I think of underwear!

    Trousers
Trousers typically, but then again, if I’m in joggers, I just call them joggers or jogging bottoms and then if I’m in jeans I say jeans, trousers normally is generic but I tend to say trousers if I’m in smart trousers.

    Same @leeCal!

Good point @MarkM88 :) I tend to say the specific item too, such as jeans, trackies, pyjama bottoms, smart trousers, and so on.

I say similar to @MarkM88. Trousers if trousers but it might also be leggings or jeans, for example  :)

    Pants
I'm a pant person. Though I do mix and match between the two occasionally.

I call them trousers, but I occasionally call them strides as well.
