Hi, my name is fatmouse! My report doesn't reflect my assessment. Should I appeal?

Just wondering if anyone can advise me please. I had my pip assessment over the telephone but the report does not reflect our conversation. Large chunks of important information is missing. Mainly how I described how I managed. The report to say the least is very selective in what was recorded. No wonder I have been turned down. I don’t wish to use language such as the assessor lied however there is no getting away from the facts that her recording of our conversation is very selective and one that distorts my case. I am thinking of just giving up but my family feel I should appeal and ask them to obtain the recording of my assessment and compare this with the written report. I can’t see them agreeing to do this personally but reading some of the discussions on here I’m finding my situation is far from isolated.

Hello @fatmouse and welcome and thank you for reaching  out to the online community.
First of all if the assessor was going to record your conversation with you she should have first requested your consent to do so. From what you say you did give consent but are upset that the report bears no relation to what you said to her.

The move to introduce recordings of assessments was made to try and deal with situations such as yours.  You can request a copy of the recording but don't wait to receive this before Appealing a DWP decision | Disability charity Scope UK There is a time limit of 30 days from the date of the DWP's decision in which you can request a mandatory reconsideration.  You can make a request for a mandatory reconsideration beyond this time limit (provided it is made within 13 months of the DWP's decision) but you must give a reason why the request for the mandatory reconsideration is late. Your family are right. Don't give up ! Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
