Good morning,
Please be prepared for a long read.
Just an update on my PIP journey it was my first time claiming it. I started my claim in September 2021.
I am truely delighted that I have finally received my decision letter
today.
You read so many worrying thing people have from first applying but I have to say that apart from the delay from claiming to receiving my decision letter I feel like I have been treated very fairly and with respect each step of the way.
I was very fortunate that each person I spoke to whenever I did call the helpline were very kind, caring and tried their best to help and advise me with the limited resources they had available.
It did appear there were different levels of advisors when calling ( I even got through to a manager who was helping on calls one day) as some seemed to have access to certain screens but even the ones that did not have full access tried their best and advised me to call back at anytime. The wait when ringing is dreadful though.
I had been advised that I had a paper based assessment and they had also requested a GP factual letter from my doctor.
With the how my disability effects me form I sent a copy of my repeat prescription and I also enclosed 2 consultants letters and gave the names and number of all doctors I have seen.
The paper based report was very thorough fair and correct for most parts but I felt the assessor had slightly underscored me on a couple of things. I didn't see this as a problem though as I knew I could do an MR if required.
The decision maker took note of the assessors report, her views and all other information provided and marked the same as suggested for each award and length of awards.
Enhanced for both awards
30 points daily living
12 points mobility
Both until 2032
No amount of money can ever take the place of good health but this will certainly enable me to have a few little treats and help towards the additional costs due to my poor health.
I am nearly pensionable age and I really do wish I had applied sooner as I have had poor health for over 20 years but always strived to work for my money in a career i loved. I decided 5 years ago to finish. I have no works pension but claimed ESA about 2 or 3 years ago. This was my first time getting a benefit and it is contribution based.
If you are still reading a huge thank you to all of you and especially to the very kind and friendly people who have advised and chatted to me on here. Your knowledge, time and patience is very much appreciated.
Stay safe and as well as possible and good luck to everyone during their PIP journey and for the future.
Kindest regards
