Attitude of people when you have a speech problem

Hi All
I have cerebellar ataxia and slur when speak. Does anyone else have problems, especially with nurses, who think you are drunk and write it in your medical records? Ward Clerks too seem to shout and become very condescending.
Even when I disclose my physical disability it makes no difference.

Sorry to hear this @katyNew, that does sound like a terrible thing to go through, I can't imagine how it must feel. Hopefully something can be done about it.

My speech becomes worse when I'm tired. I have also been accused of being drunk and refused entry to venues etc.0

It must be worse for a younger person. I tend not to go out.0

Any comment on medical notes can be challenged, and I definitely would!I went to School with numerous people with CP related speech issues and it really winds me up when people do not take the time to listen a little closer as most of my friends with Cerebral Palsy also had a wicked, self-deprecating sense of humour.
After school, I did work experience setting up voice equipment at a Special School for the pupils who needed it. The first time they used it, their faces were pictures!0 -
I complained to the GP practice and they added my objection and said the nurse was mortified by her mistake.
It took ages, I know we were in a pandemic but did not think they prioritised the issue.
You are really funny and smart too!
Thanks ☺️
