    Hi Sue
I am trying. I am a bit surprised about the lack of interest in the coffee lounge. I keep looking at other categories where the last post was maybe 2019 or even 2018. What do you find attracts the most conversation?
    Cheers

Hi @Maurice123 when you look on threads/chats have a look at the bottom by leave a comment and see if there are numbered pages always go to the higher number that's more up to date.
Coffee lounge is were we play the games and ask about the day - don't click on the bottom of the box click on the top bit and you can curse down all the chats/threads click on one that interests you - hope that helps.

    Hi again Alex,
I have now had a chance to read some of the posts on CP. It reads on many like a horror story. Why are people so horrible? All the writers seem reasonable people but from student age to forties men have been very nasty. Have you ever suffered such an experience? I hope not. Are you working as admin with Scope or are you merely a helper. If so you come across as a very intelligent person. Had an annoying experience this am but it was made up for by some very polite and helpful dustmen who collected my recycling this morning.

Hello again @Maurice123 I'm pleased to see you've been having a look around, and thanks @SueHeath for sharing the tip about tagging other members, just use the @ key and type the name :)

I'm part of Scope's admin team yes, and our volunteers are also particularly knowledgeable about lots of different topics.

I am glad to hear that your day has improved. Regarding the ramp into your garden, are you working with an occupational therapist to get that fitted? If so, I'd definitely raise the issue of delays with them. Did they give you a date they can next come to do it?

I think sometimes community members use the forum to share experiences which can be more negative than positive, to help find like minded support, and to feel heard and understood. It's a nice feeling to know you're not alone. I've had my share of both negative and positive experiences, and everyone manages these differently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds as though your amputation is fairly recent development? How have you found things?

    @Alex_Scope
Yes Alex I had it amputated in March 2022. It has been a complete success. What happened was that while I was out walking my dog Twiglet I stood on something sharp. It pierced the sole of my shoe but I thought nothing more of it at the time. Then a month later a district nurse who was attending my late wife noticed two black toes and told me to see the doctor. This was three years ago. I saw the doctor who gave me a letter for a consultant at the RDE hospital in Exeter. I drove to the hospital (both legs then) in great pain. Given bed the same night and about midnight they operated on my right leg. At the time it was an amputation of two toes and a bypass. I then suffered two years of on and off pain in the leg plus a weeping wound from my big toe. By March this year the would had reached the bone in my toe and I was told I could be inf I had only ected very quickly. Result. Into hospital again and leg below the knee off. No more pain from leg. It took me a short while to become used to the ides but I am quite happy now. I only miss two things. One is not being able to drive ( and we have exhausted this now) and the other is company.
I had only used a local pub for about four months before my amputation but was taken there by a couple of friends recently. When I was wheeled in and put beside a table about half the pub came up to welcome me and wish me well. This was very enjoyable and seems totally unlike the experiences of many of your friends.
You have told me about sport but do you have any other interests which you pursue?

Thanks for sharing @Maurice123 I am glad that the amputation means less hassle pain wise, and that it's been a success for you :)  I'm sorry to hear that you've since lost your wife. Do you still have your dog Twiglet?

I can understand why it might be harder now to find company, and I hope the community here will help in it's own way with feeling less isolated. It sounds like a lovely pub to visit, and I'm glad you had so many well wishers. The interesting thing about social media/the internet is that you can read a set of experiences and view them as what life is like all the time. Often, like an iceberg, only a small part is visible for us to read, and the majority is under the surface. It does work both ways though, so it's an interesting thought.

I wonder if there are any social clubs local to you that might be of interest? Sometimes local councils have a list of clubs or societies, or volunteer organisations which offer the chance to socialise?

I used to work in museums and heritage, and also spend a lot of time playing video games :)

We had a good life but she had no life and sadly the kindest thing for her was to die. I was quite relieved when she died. Thats enough so now I want to move on.
Unfortunately  there are none of your suggestions in this area. It is a quiet part of Devon and I am surrounded by farmers and green fields. They only seem to grow for hay. My own landlord is currently installing three miles of fencing around his property. All the wealth in the country is not only in the city of London.
I will keep exploring the other categories and there are lots of them. If you sunbathe be careful tomorrow. It will be very hot.

Oh no. I have been watching a TV programme Antiques Road Trip. It  has an auction in Paddock Wood
near Tunbridge Wells. It has Mark Stacey as one of the two presenters. I started that auction house in 2016 but have no interest in it now. Mark Stacey worked for me. Memories!!

It's great to have our memories @Maurice123 Me and hubby like watching Antique road show as well as some other antique related TV programes.
Thanks for sharing your experience with your health and your wife.
Do you have any children or grandchildren ?

No Sue. I have no close relatives. However I am very lucky in that I have a few good friends, one of whom calls me every Sunday to swop that weeks experiences and another who calls every two weeks or so. He is suffering with a psychological problem that prevents him leaving the house. The other is fully mobile with no disabilities.
I find these links to the past very supportive. I have also made friends where I live now. Perhaps it is just Devon.
The long term residents are very friendly - I have only lived where I am now for a couple of years and to date my experiences have been all good. Mind you I have only had my disability for three months, but so far so good.

    Hi Sue
I am beginning to find my way around the site. However I am having a  couple of problems. Firstly the coffee lounge. I see lots of suggestions or topics but a lot are quickly going back to early January. Perhaps too many people put their names on but do not follow up. It seems impossible to cope with the huge number on it.
Should you limitit to the last 20 or at least a specific number. What does it mean when the site says
"you are limited to 5 recipients"?  You comment on a subject but you do not establish a relationship  It would be good to be able to chat to see if you have common interests with that person or do you (the site) deliberately keep
    conversations low key.
    Cheers
    Maurice

    @Biblioklept,
That is very thoughtful Biblioklept. I was afraid that I might have upset you. I have very forthright views on the world around me and sometimes write before I have thought things through.
Anyway that aside I do wish that we could have a conversation as I think you are a very intelligent person. Your name pops up frequently and you clearly enjoy using the site. I am very lucky as I am taken out by my adventurous friends twice a week. I am about 30 mins from where they live and they have that journey here and back before we go anywhere. We visit pubs in my area and I have made a lot of friends who lift my wheelchair in and out when necessary. If you are interested look up "The Highwayman" Devon and you will see one of our haunts.
I hope you are also well (allowing for your problems). Cheers, Maurice

We appreciate you sharing your views with us @Maurice123. Hopefully, you will be able to have a conversation with @Biblioklept

It sounds really positive that you are taken out by your adventurous friends twice a week. Have you been anywhere particularly nice recently?

Friends who are able and willing to help go such a long way! Really glad to hear you have this support.

Take care for now and we will look forward to hopefully hearing from you again soon  :)
