Hello,
I've just been reading some comments with regards annual rent increases,
(I'm refering to Social Housing rent increase) being awarded in the Housing element of UC awards and at the same time Transitional Protection Payment element being reduced by the same amount as the increase.
In other words given the increase in one hand, but taken away in the other.
This has happened to me and I've also noticed exactly the same has happened to the calculation of my June UC payment, due to an increase to the standard single person (over 25) element and a small increase to my Limited Capability to Work element.
In real terms this means I have not be seen any increase to my total UC award.
Please advise what is being done regarding the above. If legal action is to be taken I'd be very interested.
Kind regards
Helen

Hi and welcome to the community
Unfortunately this is correct you won't see any increase in your uc until the transition element has been eroded to zero0 -
Transitional protection when people moved from Incapacity Benefit to ESA was treated in the same way. However, because UC encompasses more elements, people on UC are likely to see their transitional protection disappear much more quickly than did ESA claimants.
Transitional protection is not intended to provide a permanent increase in benefit when compared to those in similar circumstances on UC.
I am not aware of any challenges to this.
