I am looking for advice about applying for PiP for my son who is autistic.  He had DLA which was  removed when PiP arrived - we have applied and been rejected twice.  He wants to apply again due to the pressure on his fixed income due to the ever increasing cost of living.   I would love to find out if anyone if autism is ever granted PiP - the system seems loaded against this condition.    I would be grateful for any advice to use on the application form which, again, is loaded towards people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.   Thanks

Lots of people claim PIP because of how Autism affects them. However, PIP isn't awarded based on any diagnosis. It's how those conditions affect your ability to carry out the PIP activities to the required standard.
Did he ever challenge the decision when he's been refused? If not, was there any reasons why? To constantly reapply using the same evidence you previously used will likely see constant refusals. For this reason you should challenge the decision by first requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) then Tribunal if the MR decision doesn't change.
May i ask when exactly was the decision made on his last claim? If it was less than 13 months ago then with good reason he can still request the MR. He will need to state his reasons for not requesting it within the first month. If they refuse then you just proceed to Tribunal.

thanks Poppy - we requested MR on both occasions and they were turned down.   My son has high functioning autism but we still need to give him a lot of support and many of his issues are hidden.
I appreciate we need to find a different way of presenting another claim - just looking for some advice on what might change the outcome.

It's not unusal for the MR decision not to change. Was there any reasons why you didn't take it to Tribunal?
When was the decision made on his most recent MR please?
