How much more can people take. Had my bill today for Gas. Hardly ever had it on as i have been very careful. Compared to the same period last year for three months, it has gone up by one hundred pound. I am not looking forward to when it is winter. this bill was from april to june.

Hi the
What % increase is that as hard to judge with just saying £100 increase to last year
On another note @happyfella been wondering how your daughter got on at her absence meeting0 -
I always receive my bill monthly with my energy supplier (Octopus energy) in the period April to June last year my total gas bill was £48.60. In same period this year my bill was £51.44 so not a huge difference for me.I'm in credit at the moment and based on my last bill my credit will only increase further next month.1

my bill last year was £60. Ref my daughter, she did not have it as they were informed they did not follow the correct procedure and were out of time. Their HR department admitted they did not follow the correct procedure in time. Others who had action against them are speaking to solicitors about unfair dismall.

I am with Scottish power and we have barely used the gas. Just cannot understand how the bill has shot up like that. I know prices have gone up, but when you have not even used it much, it is a bit of a shock.

Thanks for the update at least they admitted they couldn't proceed outside their own procedures
As for others if they have been dismissed then agree they should seek further advice0 -
I was recently contacted by EDF as my gas usage dropped so dramatically that they thought something was wrong. My bills had gone up by almost 100%. My trick to lower them? I realised that every turn of a hot tap was firing up the boiler! We stopped using the hot taps unless we ‘needed’ hot water. We are all in the habit of turning on the hot tap, then not letting it run enough to get hot. I’ve turned off the isolator in the downstairs WC and realised that unless water is extremely hot, it is the chemical cleaners we use that do the work. We only use hot taps and hot water now for hubby shaving and for showering (I’ve even turned the temp down). The floor is mopped with cold water and bleach and surprise, surprise, it is just as clean. Same with the worktops. Our gas usage has almost disappeared!3

Because I turn my gas off between 1st May and 1st October (varies slightly depending on temperatures) and I have solar panels, my credit increases slightly every month just like yours.0

We pay approx £280 a month for both gas and electricity.0

That's crazy! I pay £123 per month for both.

I can trump that - I pay £45 a month for both gas & elastic trickery. But I do live on my own and I only use gas for heating, which is turned off 1st May and turned back on 1st October.

Ours has gone up quite a bit since our guests moved in. I don’t think they realise the price of energy in this country. Under the guidance we can ask them to contribute towards the energy bills but we going to leave it as I think they’ve been through enough and I don’t want to add another worry for them.

I pay £75 for both but this hasn't increased as yet so expecting it will go up there for 2 of us in a bungalow0

I was fortunate and signed a two-year deal about a week before this all began. It means my tariff is fixed until early September 2023. My current DD is £56.
My worry is that my supplier will do what they always do, reduce my DD when I go into credit.
I want to continue paying month-on-month even when the £66.66 per month is applied so that I have a little credit when my deal concludes. The impact of who knows how many price-cap increases hitting at once will be, I imagine, quite substantial.
I suspect I will have a battle on my hands to be able to do so"overpay" because their entire system appears to be automated i.e. no human involvement!!0 -
My friend was in a similar situation @Girl_No1. They managed to call their supplier, who agreed to readjust their direct debit. Does your supplier have a phone number or live chat you could try?0
-
@Tori_Scope - Thanks for suggestion. I've tried to call them a few times but I imagine they are overloaded with people panicking about new tariffs etc.
I know people have tremendous fears about their future bills, so I'll leave the lines free for them to contact supplier!
I'll just bank the difference between what I currently pay and the reduced DD ready for the increase whenever it hits.
Good luck everyone in meeting your new charges, and remember there is additional help if you are struggling/in debt.
In Scotland the website is https://homeheatingadvice.scot Sorry, I don't have details for Wales or England.0 -
woodbine said:we have LED bulbs now in most lights, only boil enough in the kettle for what we need when we brew upThat`s what I do too.I also make the most of my solar panels; if I`m generating enough to use my kettle for free of an afternoon, I boil a kettle of water and then fill 3 x 1 pint flasks. These are stored in heat retentive woolen packing (previously obtained from an online butcher when the meat was delivered) and used the next morning, initially for my cup of tea. They`re good, heat retaining flasks, so it takes very little time to heat the water again. The water that is left after making my cuppa goes back in the flask, to be used later in the morning.

I think many people will be feeling the same level of fear @kennna Have you been able to stay reasonably warm? We've had some really cold weather, haven't we?0

The same here, ours combined is £300 per month now..
It's simply not sustainable for those of us on a fixed income.. 😔0 -
If anyone on this thread would like to help us with our campaigning work in this area, you might be interested in this opportunityHi there!
My name is Sophie and I work in the Scope Stories team. We are currently working on a campaign about the cost of living for disabled people. If you have disability-related costs that are higher than average, such as energy bills over £208 per month, we would be keen to hear from you.
If you're interested in participating, you can fill in this form, or email us at stories@scope.org.uk with any questions or for more information.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
