Certificate of entitlement- road tax.

Hello, first post. Two weeks ago I had to replace my car. I went to the P.O. I always use with a certificate of entitlement and other relevant documents to tax my replacement car. I was told my certificate has to have the replacement cars registration. I argued this was not the case but was refused service. I rung the PIP helpline and after being cut off, then queuing for 25 minutes I was told the certificate has to have been issued within the past 3 months.  I asked to be sent a current certificate which I am entitled to and a week later nothing received.
The upshot for me with this is I will not drive my car without tax. For two weeks now I have relied on lifts and favours from neighbours and friends. My car so important for my life on so many levels. My replacement car sat on the drive. I cannot download the certificate online. I got incorrect info from the post office even though a supervisor was consulted. The PIP helpline operative said the certificate has to have been issued within the past 3 months, that has to be incorrect? I'm so frustrated that I have been fed so much mis-information. If I was able bodied I could have taxed this within minutes online. Sorry guys just pressure releasing!!!!

Hello @fireball27 and welcome, I hope we can help feel a little better while you're here, thanks for reaching out and sharing what's happened.

Frustratingly, where PIP is used to help evidence or access other things, such as road tax, it does require a recently dated letter of entitlement to PIP, no matter the length of the award.

You can request a copy which will be recently dated on the PIP enquiry line, which it sounds like you've done. I had do to this recently for my blue badge renewal, and it took a little over a week to arrive. Hopefully your copy should arrive before long too.

I am sorry to hear that this has impacted your ability to get about with your car. I think if this information was more readily and clearly available, this would've been no problem for you, but you didn't know. I can certainly understand your frustrations.

Let us know if there's anything further we can do to help, otherwise please feel free to have a look around. You might like to visit the coffee lounge and chat to other members. Have a good evening :)
