PIP Award. I didn't give consent for my details to be shared with the PIP assessment team

I've recently been awarded PIP and of course it's difficult to complain about the extra income.

However, whilst I applied for PIP in 2018, I've not actually filled in an application form recently. When questioned, the PIP case manager informed that my medical records were obtained from my NHS mental health provider and this was sufficient for them to make a decision.

Again, it's difficult to complain about the application process being streamlined in this way. However, at no point during this current application cycle did I give formal (or informal) consent for my details to be shared with the PIP assessment team.

I'm hesitant to raise a complaint with the ICO; however, whilst the provision of my details has worked in my favour on this occasion, it's possible it may not do so in future.

Does anybody else have experience of anything similar?

I've now been informed by PIP that, in fact, they only were given instruction to approve the award of PIP by the assessment provider (Independent Assessment Services). PIP allege that Independent Assessment Services claimed to have had a telephone assessment with myself.

I think I'll report this directly to the ICO, rather than go around the houses in some twisted governmental blame game.

You can also make a right of access request to DWP and they will send you all the information they hold about you. You will need to make sure you request it between the dates needed. You can do that here. https://secure.dwp.gov.uk/personal-information-request/name
