Moving house

My tenancy runs from the 7th to the 7th of each month… I’m wanting to move house and move in with my dad. I get paid UC on the 30th of each month and my rent is due on the 7th. If I give my months notice this month on the 7th then I need to be out on the 7th of September… but UC would of paid me on the 30th for a months worth of rent that I now don’t need? Do you see what i mean? I will report a change of circumstances but scared I will be overpaid and then have to pay it back.

UC is based on your entitlement on the last day of your assessment period. If you get paid on the 30th that means your assessment periods are 24th to 23rd of each month. This is one good thing about UC is that sometimes it works out in your favour. You won't have an overpayment.Remember that UC is paid 1 month in arrears so you may still owe your landlord that final payment as you will need to pay your rent up until your tenancy ends.0

Thanks for your replies guys! I’ve given my months notice yesterday. Was wondering if obviously the landlord agreed, would I be able to leave before the month notice is up? Would that affect my rent payment? I’m guessing as long as I’m still at the flat during the assmesnt period it’s fine?0

You can leave anytime but you're still liable for the rent until your notice has ended. For UC purposes what counts is the last day of your assessment period which for you is, 23rd July.

I'm glad that poppy123456 and biblioklept have been able to clear that up for you @cwatson0000
If you have any further questions, please do let us know!
Do you mind me asking how you're feeling about moving in with your dad?0
