Morning All, me and my partner registered for PIP at the same time, he got his text yesterday saying he has been awarded pip which i knew he would as its his eye sight he is losing through diabeties. Im trying to get pip for Hypothyrodism and Diverticular disease. Ive heard its very hard to get it for these problems. My text yesterday said they have not yet made a decision. Has anyone else been awarded pip for Hypothyrodism

PIP isn't awarded based on any diagnosis. What matters is how those conditions affect you against the 12 PIP activities. Decision timescales are between 2-12 weeks after the assessment report is returned to DWP.
Once the decision is made if either of you aren't happy then you can challenge that decision hy first requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR)

Hi Poppy, thanks so much for replying to my comment. I feel just awful actually applying for PIP, ive never applied for any benefit in my life, ive always been very active, im an ex soldier but this has just taken me down, the thyroxine made a difference when i first started taking it but now i feel like i did at the start and working is getting harder and harder, im wondering if they turn me down if i should appeal or not or just accept their decision x

If the worst happens and you're refused or you don't receive the award you think you're entitled to then it's your decision whether to challenge that. Remember, PIP isn't about your ability to work because people claim PIP and work.

Yes i was told this and thats why i put in a claim, just need a little bit of help with things, im struggling to drive so the extra money would help pay for a taxi. Struggle to wash my hair as i cant keep my arms lifted and my hubby cant see well enough to do it so i would be able to have it washed once a week by someone. things such as these would be a great help to me. I also suffer badly with the diverticular which means i have to wear tenna daily in case of bowel leaks. These work out expensive daily and you can imagine how this makes me feel now ive started a new job sharing a toilet with 5 other women, horrified i am xxx How did it come to this

Welcome to the community @kayluc7 :) Thank you for joining, and for being so open with us.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been struggling with your health lately. Though both you and your husband experience your own health issues, are you able to support each other emotionally?

Is there an accessible toilet at your workplace that you could use? As you've also mentioned work becoming harder to cope with, I'm wondering whether you might want to see whether getting some reasonable adjustments (Scope) could help.

Have you told your doctor that it's not working as well as it used to?

I hope that you're PIP claim goes smoothly. If you do end up needing to challenge the decision, we'll be here to offer you advice and support :)

Hi Tori, thanks so much for the support, its been really difficult making the decision to claim pip when ive worked all my adult life and relied on no one and nothing. Ive recently started a new job which only has one ladies toilet and one mens, i dont feel comfortable enough to mention my issues yet, ive been on the waiting list for a hysterectomy for over a year and ive just been told the op will be in October so im going to have to tell my new boss im going to be off work for 6 weeks. Im just trying to cope with everything else as best i can so that they dont feel im not worth keeping on. I will be talking to the doc about the thyroxine but im on 125mg so a really high dose and the last time i mentioned it they didnt seem interested. They take my blood and just say all is ok. Once ive had my operation i think i might push more and see what they can do xkx
