Asking if a role could be part time
I’ve applied for a full time position but in reality I don’t think I can do it full time due to pain and fatigue from underlying health issues. I found the job advertised too late to ask them about considering part time hours, I applied close to them closing applications. When is the best time to ask about part time hours? What are people’s experiences? This work is really niche in the heritage sector, so hard to compare to other work spaces but trying to figure out if I can request part time or when to ask about it. Of course I may not even hear back about this application, but this will be useful information for future applications. Thanks 😊

Hi and welcome to the community
Personally being an experienced hr manager I would advise you discuss if your application is 0r9gressed eg invited to interview
There is nothing more frustrating for both parties than putting in time and effort in interview to then find the candidate I'd unable to meet the requirements of the job that was advertised
However don't be put off because if they are aware there could be possibility of part time hours or job share
See what happens and if you get progressed then discuss this with them prior to attending any interview1 -
@janer1967 thank you, that’s helpful because I feel best about discussing this sort of thing upfront, but found conflicting information online. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to email before I applied, so speaking to them if I get my application progressed sounds best, thank you for the quick response.0

All the best of luck for getting an interview @lady262 and I'm glad you found janer's advice so helpful
I used to work in the heritage sector myself, and while flexibility around working hours depends on the particular role and organisation, they are all obliged to discuss reasonable adjustments if you make it known that you'd need some, perhaps in the section of the interview where you get to ask questions.
One thing I always like to remember is that at interview, you are interviewing your employer too, so it needs to feel right, work for you and what you're comfortable with.
Good luck, and keep us updated!
