Hi I’m looking for a bit of advice my Great Niece has sleep apnea , her Mum can’t believe after such horrible nights she bounces around as lively as anything while her Mum is absolutely shattered. Her Mum has her in bed with her because of the stopping breathing and choking fits. I’m just wondering if she would be entitled to kids DLA, I would appreciate any feedback
Thanks
Thanks

Hi @Munchkin_1. Welcome to Scope's forum. It is great to see you have joined us. How are you?
Thanks for finding the courage to reach out to us. I can hear how things are tough at the moment with your Great Niece having sleep apnea.
DLA would depend on how your Great Niece is affected by having sleep apnea. Though, it might be worth her mum looking into carers allowance too. Though, we can't make any promises about eligibility.
If we can do anything else to help please don't hesitate to let us know. We are all here for you, even if that is just providing a listening ear0 -
It will depend on how her conditions affect her. Her mother will need to prove she needs more care and attention than a child of the same age who doesn't have a disability.L_Volunteer said:Though, it might be worth her mum looking into carers allowance too.
The mother will not be able to claim this unless the child is awarded either mid/high rate care DLA.
