Dealing with sciatica

So I've dealt with a lot of pain over my life, staying off unnecessary medication as often as possible. Being stubborn & focusing on mind/body healing has helped too. Backup 3 weeks ago when I woke up with sciatica for the first time out of nowhere. This has been the worst consistent pain I've ever dealt with.

I've done and tried a lot since then, and it's slowly feeling not so **** (constant stretching, standing desk at work, walking around more, chiropractor, etc)
Mostly my glute, outer rear thigh and outer calf are the areas that are the most debilitating - feeling like a band that cant stretch. This happens after sitting for a bit and lying down. That said, I'm getting cabin fever and need to get back to altitude. For anyone that's had this, I'm wondering what you've done to make things better in the short and long term, recovery time and when you were able to get back to the peaks and backpacking. But Pain O Soma 500mg helps me out of the pain and now I am much stable than my previous condition.

Hello fellow sufferers .Recently I have started getting getting sciatica after sitting for an hour or more. Obviously I can manage it at home but var journeys and flights can be very uncomfortable. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks

    Hi @shira21
I suffer with sciatica too have done for years on and off. The pain can be unbearable, so I understand how you are feeling
The only thing that helped me were yoga/pilates stretching poses that are designed to help ease sciatica.

If you Google stretches for sciatica you will find loads on there and they really do help as long as you keep doing them. Just don't over stretch and if it causes more pain then stop.
Really hope you find some relief

Hi I have been suffering with siatica since mid August, I’ve had to be off from work since beginning of September as I work on a stroke ward.
I feel some days it’s getting better, then like last night it flares up again. Will I ever get back to normal?

I had sciatica for three years after a back injury that left my spine curved and neck and pelvis twisted. I was unable to straighten my right leg.
Couldnt stay in one position for long, couldnt get comfortable etc.
They said the problem was my spine and a muscle in my back in spasm.
Physio, weight loss, and I guess just time righted it. Still get issues but not constant.
Physio suggested swimming as long as you swim flat, and work up to it. So start by just floating. It did help over time, again. Physio said only form of exercise where you are not putting weight on it. But take things slow and gently.
Pain killers never worked, applying heat helped a lot, so heat pads. And a good physio though not osteopaths.
Btw I hate swimming but did it as suggested. Over time and that slow build up got so I could do 50 lengths comfortably.
Hope all this may help somebody.
