Electric car charging cable/pavement

I would really like an electric car and want to make it work. However I’m unsure as to the viability.
We don’t have a driveway. We do have a parking space right outside the house. There is however a pavement running across the front of the house which you have to cross to get to the parking space.
This means the charging lead would have to cross the pavement.
We live in a quiet court, and the pavement is only used to access 4 houses. We have good neighbourly relations so no one would mind.
However I’m concerned about e.g. if the postman trips on it.
I was thinking if we put the cable over the pavement and covered it with one of those rubber mats that workmen cover their cables with to stop people tripping, would this cover us?
Attached is a very unprofessional picture that hopefully illustrates what I mean.
Thank you.

@Teddybear12 thank you for the reply. That's a shame. I guess I will have to have another petrol car.
On a different note, I wonder what the millions of people without a driveway are expected to do when electric cars become mandatory? Will it go back to only the rich owning cars?0 -
Just thought of another idea...
To the left of the parking space is a plot of grass with a tree on it which we also own. I didn't illustrate it above.
Could the charging station go there, with the cable running underground from the house?0 -
@Teddybear12
It is open but is literally right next to the parking space so the "wall box" could be put right next to where the car goes.
I think I will have to do some more research and maybe will ask my Motability dealer as well with a picture of the house setup. Not a big issue having to have petrol again but electric would save me about £1,500 a year plus £1,500 up front so a decent chunk.
Thanks again.1 -
@66Mustang This short article addresses some of the issues involved in running a cable over the pavement to charge your car, very interesting.

I especially like the gully idea which is fitted by the council.0

I watched a documentry on TV a few months ago about electric chargers for cars. One of the options that someone was using was the Gul e option. He said it was done by his LA because without it he wouldn't have been able to charge his car. It comes with a long pole like tool that you use to push the cable into the ground and then it becomes completely invisible and perfectly safe for people to walk over without causing any accidents. I thought it was a very good idea and definitely worth looking into.

We live on a large housing estate and we have noticed charging points have started going up at the high rise flats - Ten storey high flats - but only one charging machine ???? really don't know how this is going to work ? x0
