I'm not sure if I'm in the right place here, but I'm looking for some help for a friend as she'd worried that her partner's mum is trying to stop him from taking his epilepsy medication. They've been told by both a doctor and a paramedic that her (my friend's) partner has got epilepsy. She has epilepsy herself as she's had it all her life. My friend is beside herself with worry. I've offered to look for advice on a parent stopping their adult epileptic child from taking their epilepsy medication, but I've got nowhere so far, but I'm not giving up yet.
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with finding out anything that can help my friend and her partner.

No one should stop taking any medication without advice from their GP first. What makes her think the mother is trying to do this? Do they still live with the mother?

@poppy123456 They have their own place, but my friend's partner sometimes goes and visits his mum or she'll go to theirs

That sounds like a distressing situation @BrianMcFaddenfan07!

Do you know if she's been trying to stop him by telling him he shouldn't, or doing something physically to prevent him from taking his medication?

Has he been able to get to the bottom of why she's trying to stop him from taking his medication?

@Tori_Scope my friend said that his mum is saying things to him that sounded like she was trying to stop him from taking his medication and getting the help he needs.

Has he explained to her why he takes it, and how her comments make him feel @BrianMcFaddenfan07? I know it can be difficult to have these conversations, but often these kinds of comments come from a place of misunderstanding.

@Tori_Scope I'm not sure as my friend hasn't said either way.

Hi there, I think as his mom is just advising him not to take it, the choice is still his. If she had taken the medication away, that would be a different issue.

I do think it'd be worth him having a conversation with her about it @BrianMcFaddenfan07 :) He could also consider bringing her along to one of his appointments so the doctor can explain what he's taking, and why, if that's something he thinks could help.
