Injury pay out

My 18 yr old granddaughter has been waiting 7 years to be paid out for an injury at school. She is disabled because of the injury she has been offered £16,000 she is worried her benefits will be affected and she would soon be worse off. What if she uses some of the money to buy a car ? Would that reduce her savings so her benefits were safe? Should she accept the £16,000 or insist on more?

What benefits exactly does she claim for herself in her own right? Sorry but we are not legal experts so can't advise on whether she she accept the money or not.

If you have a solicitor representing you they should be negotiating this. If not, maybe you need to get one. The solicitor should get their costs from the other side if it goes to court but may charge you a percentage if not.

However, the offer seems low for an injury which left her disabled for life. Just my opinion and I've worked in such claims and have recent experience also. But it's just an opinion and not legal advice.

As an example, a friend recently got £20,000 through a solicitor for a wrist injury from an offer of £3,500 directly. Even after the 25% (£5,000) costs the solicitor has taken he's left with £15,000. It did not go to court.
