Hi to everyone,
Please can anyone advise me, I am a lone parent with 2 children one at 18 years old college full time, one at primary school, I recieve income support with sdp, and pip enhanced care , I also claim carers for my mum, I get a 25% reduction on council tax and I recieve housing benefit
My Son had an interview for an apprenticeship today, thinking it was going to be part time, they said they want him full time as an apprentice on an apprenticeship wage, at 40 hours a week, fantastic for him .My question is
What will I loose in benefits please?

If you are still claiming child benefit and tax credits for them then both of those will end. Unless they also claim a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care then you will also lose the SDP in your Income Support.Your single person discount for council tax will also end because they will no longer be classed as a student.0

Yes so child benefit will go and his child tax , he doesn't claim any disability or any benefits , @poppy123456 I get 3 of the premiums will I loose all 3 of them? Thankyou for quick response0

@poppy123456
Can he claim carers for me if I loose my premiums?0 -
You will only lose the SDP. He won't be able to claim carers allowance for looking after you because earnings need to be less than £132 per week.

Your other premiums will continue. You will need to contact Income Support to report the changes.If your council tax includes the single person discount then this will also end. Your housing benefit may increase because you'll be entitled to an extra bedroom.Does your son work? A year ago when you posted the thread you said he was think of starting an apprenticeship.0

Hi poppy , no he stayed education when he left and has left education , he has been caring for me although never made a claim.0

I'm assuming when he left home you reported the changes to HMRC? As he doesn't work then yes he can claim UC in his own right.If he moves back in with you when he claims he will need to tell them that he's caring for you. His UC will then include carers element, which is an extra £185.86/month, on top of £292.11 for standard allowance. He does not need to claim carers allowance to be entitled to carers element of UC.If he doesn't move back in with you then claiming either carers allowance or carers element of UC will mean your SDP will end. If he moves back in with you then the SDP ends anyway so he can claim the carers.1

Great oh yes everything was reported in change of circumstances, I didn't know about the carers element , how does he claim that? Does he claim it when claiming uc ?0
-
Oh I see you answered that question , thankyou for your help .0

Please note that she will only be claiming housing benefit if she's living in either supported or temporary housing. Otherwise her rent will paid in with her UC known as housing element. They are 2 completely different things.If her PIP includes the daily living part then there will be no non dependant deductions, regardless of their age. This means that their UC will not be affected.If they are claiming council tax reduction then they would lose the single person discount, if they are the only 2 adults in the house. She needs to report the changes to her local Authority. I can't advise about council tax reduction because all LA's have their own rules.0
