edited November 2022 in Universal Credit (UC)
Hi.

I contracted COVID back in Jan 2020. I was in hospital for a few days am now asthmatic and am attending the long COVID clinic for memory loss and aching joints. I was a self employed plumber for twenty years and tried to work after leaving hospital but it wasn't possible. I signed up for universal credit in the August of 2020. I was asked at that point to start sending or applying fit notes In my journal I have done so without breaks.
I filled out a uc50 form in November 2020 but it has never been registered so maybe it got lost with the lockdowns etc... Anyway I filled a new one out in June this year and recently did the phone interview with health advisor. I have been awarded lcwra and have just had my first payment . They originally awarded lcwra from June 2021 by mistake and I asked for a reconcideration and the decision maker has amended it to 05/08/2020 and has said Amy money owing will be in die course. I'm assuming I'm going to get bwckdsted to August 2020. Does anyone know how long they are going to take to forward this backpayment to me is It days weeks months or years would just be handy to know and I can plan .

Many thanks for your time

Kind regards Steven

The extra LCWRA element is not paid at all during the first 3 full assessment periods, it's then paid from the 4th month after you reported your health condition. This is known as the waiting period.
Although they started it from 05/08/2020 you still have the waiting period after this. Based on the information you gave your waiting period will be Aug to Nov 2020.. LCWRA starts from AP 5th Nov to 4th Dec and first payment will be 11th Dec 2020.
It often takes a few weeks to pay what they owe you, they first have to recalculate your past statements to see what you should have been paid against what you have been paid. You will then receive the difference between the two. Once this is done you'll receive a letter on your journal telling you how much they owe you and then it will be paid into your bank.
