Phone call requesting bank details

Hello everyone,

I began my PIP journey in June and finally had my assessment on 21/10 (after it had been cancelled twice adding a lot to my anxiety!) I received a text the same day to say the report had been received. Then on Tuesday (1/11) I had a call from DWP telling me to call the PIP helpline to give them my bank details (even though the details are on the form I submitted.)

Does anyone know why this happened? Is it a good sign? I know it’s difficult for anyone to say either way if it’s a good or bad thing but I suffer from severe anxiety and I suppose I’m just looking for a little reassurance!

Just as an aside, I’m so happy I’ve found this community - you are all wonderful! Also I hope this post is ok, please don’t hesitate to move it or delete it if I’ve done something wrong. Thank you! LW

They don't ask for bank details on the PIP2 form. They usually ask for them when you ring to start your claim. It's not unusual for them to ring to ask you to confirm them. Once the decision is made you will be contacted.

Welcome to the community @LittleWish! You've posted perfectly :) If you do ever post in the wrong category by accident, we can always move it. It's no problem.

As poppy123456 has said, people do get called to check certain details, so you're not the only one to have experienced this. Are you confident on which number you need to call?

I'm sorry to hear that you experience extreme anxiety. Many of our members also live with anxiety, so you're in good company. Are you receiving any support to help you manage your anxiety at the moment?

And thank you for the kind words :) I hope that the community can be a positive space for you to get advice, and form connections.

Thank you both for your replies.

Tori - the person I spoke to from DWP gave me the number to call and it was definitely the PIP line number so I’m not concerned that I have given my bank details out erroneously.

Regarding my anxiety, it feels like I’m on the waiting list for any number of things but I don’t ever seem to make it to the top! For the moment I have my family and my dogs and I’m trying to take it a day at a time. I just wish the waiting for the decision was over and done with, for good or bad!

@poppy123456 You are so kind and knowledgeable, this community is very lucky to have you. 😊 Would you suggest I try not to read anything into the situation as it might mean nothing at all?

That's very kind of you, thank you! You are correct, it may not mean anything. Nothing is certain until you have the decision.

My next door neighbour got asked to confirm bank details and then got refused, so it's no guarantee of a payment unfortunately. I think it's just DM confirming information is correct before making a decision.

Thank you for your reply @KerryBemmy. I suppose it just seems counterintuitive that they would ask for bank details when they didn’t need them, if that makes sense? I just wish the wait was over and done with and I knew either way. 😞

You are welcome @LittleWish. Our replies are the very least you deserve.

I hear you that it sounds counterintuitive. Hopefully, the wait will be over and done with and you know soon.

In the meantime, if you need any support, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are all here for you and listening to you  :)

    @poppy123456 @Tori_Scope @L_Volunteer

As I am awake at all hours (yay insomnia!), I just checked my banking app as I obsessively seem to have been doing recently and there is a payment from PIP.

From my rough back of an envelope calculations it looks like higher daily living and lower mobility which was what I guesstimated when I added up what I thought would be points awarded to the answers I gave on my form (if that makes sense.)

Thank you all for being so wonderful over the past couple of days, you really have been balm on a troubled soul. I wish I could buy you all flowers, but these will have to do. 💐 💐 💐

@Tori_Scope I didn’t get any sleep but I’m curled up with my beautiful spaniel and a cup of tea now and I’m enjoying the simple pleasure of not being outside in the awful weather November weather.

I’m not quite sure how much use I’ll be, but I’ll definitely stick around to give virtual hugs to all who need them. 🤗

Well that sounds nice and relaxing @littlewish :) I hope that you have a gentle day. Yes, it's certainly very chilly today. I need to get my fuzzy socks on!

Virtual hugs and words of support are always welcome, especially from those who can relate to what people are going through.

It's to make sure the bank details are correct, people can be owed thousands of pounds, if the details are wrong then you may never get that money back. Giving bank details over the phone can be misheard for example. It's a precaution. This happened to my boyfriend and luckily the account the money was sent too didn't exist so he got the cash back, but if the account was active the owner could take the money. Congratulation on your award xx
