Hi all,
Might be interesting if everyone got a pen and paper out and worked out how much money (especially 5 year leases) they are over paying Motability in my opinion.
Then check how much that wheelchair/scooter etc. is to buy new and see the difference.
I just found out that the chair I have only cost £5999 from supplier and yet Motability charge me £240 a month - so let's do some maths...12 months x £240 payment x 5 years = £14,400!
OK lets say insurance and repairs (which is covered by insurance anyway) so they are charging me £8401 for insurance?
What is my wheelchair? A Bentley?
Feeling very conned right now and they know I no other option.
I have asked it to be raised as I think it's disgusting the way they take advantage of people with the guise of charity.
Definition of charity:
an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need.
Not rob them by charging them three times the amount!
Marty

Sorry to say but I think you should have done the maths before you took out the lease.
Lots of things in life are poor value for money and it's up to you to decide not to buy them. (Or if its something you need, like a chair, to get it from a different company.)
Treat it as an expensive lesson.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.1 -
Hi,Nobody is forcing you to use the motability scheme so the solution is quite simple; return the wheelchair and then you pick up the cost of buying one and covering insurance / maintenance costs. I would imagine that is more of a pain than your perceived feeling of being conned.Andy0

So, charging those on benefit three times the value isn't a con? Some people have no physical or financial choice and Motability has taken advantage of this. It's not about being forced but having no choice as I cant walk and I'm on benefit.
Great way to make someone feel terrible.

MartyI wasn`t trying to make you feel terrible, I was trying to point out that it`s probably a lot more convenient using Motability than it is you funding the equipment yourself.

I have to agree with others and the time to work out the figures was before you signed the agreement. It’s never been worth while using mobility for wheelchairs or scooters because it’s always been cheaper to buy your own, using your mobility money.0
