Insulation/Eco 4

Hi there, I'm really frustrated as we've tried to apply for cavity wall and loft insulation. As I'm not on any legacy benefits, we no longer qualify as of April 2022. I have a spinal cord injury and incurable disease, severe neurological issues, I can no longer feel temperature, meaning the only way I know my house is warm enough is by looking at a digital thermometer!

The DWP benefits I recieve are not 'means tested' as I used to work full-time. I receive ESA (contribution based), IIDB with exceptionally severe disablement allowance.

Why has the govt removed the insulation scheme for some disabled people?? In my opinion this is unfair, shortsighted given the current cost of living crisis! (to add insult to injury when I asked if we could pay for the insulation to be done by a govt recognised supplier we were told this was not possible!)

Many thanks for reading, any help appreciated.

    Hello @littleloveuk

I don't know much about the scheme in relation to benefits but I did find this website which has different calculators to see if and what you qualify for in 2023. I wonder if anything has changed recently? may be worth inputting the information and double checking :)

    Hi Littleloveuk.

I share your frustration with regards to non means tested benefits I am in the same situation you are entitled to no help, however the government did pass over the grants to your local council. I guess it depends on your local council on what schemes they have. Our council do have a scheme but you needed to have an energy rating below D to qualify as I did not (even through I can not shut my back door and all the elements are coming into my living room as they are old and need replacing ) apparently as I have had insulation this brings my energy rating above D. I do not qualify. It seems that it needs people with a level of common sense to determine who qualifies for these grants not a set of steadfast rules. Sorry I can not offer any advice. I even contacted my local Labour MP whose only advice was to contact a charity to apply for funds.
