I'm sure you are right about the dark evenings! What I find hard to accept is that it's the 21 century and people in this so called civilized country can't get to see a doctor and are going cold and hungry, and little boys are dying in damp mold infested houses.

Hi @TonyCH welcome to our great group.
Bless you, yes every thing feels doom and gloom at the moment, we have stopped watching a lot of the news at the moment because we found we were worrying, feeling sad for things we cant change, were trying to feel blessed with what we have at the moment, very loving family which we see often.
Join us in the virtual coffee lounge if you like, we have lots of normal chats/debates/arts/games can be a very good distraction, any problems just ask someone is bound to be online.

Have a look at your energy suppliers website because some are sending out electric blankets to vulnerable people, that's if there's any left.
Other than that you can buy them quite cheaply on the internet. They cost just pennies to run and will definitely keep you warm at the fraction of the cost of putting your heating on. Are you able to use some of your winter fuel payment to buy one?

I think in fairness as far as we know it was one little boy who died in a damp mouldy house, and if I'm brutally honest when I saw the pictures on TV of the bedroom I did wonder why the hell the parents allowed him to sleep in such a room.
I am glad it was only one little boy that died, and that we haven't heard about all the little boys and girls who live in unsavory conditions, not to mention adults,  in what is deemed to be the 6th richest economy in the world. That is ok then, just one little boy? The reason why his parents let him sleep in the room was because they had nowhere else to put him, in their damp and sodden flat/house. I lived in mouldy damp conditions for years, and it affected my health greatly. Not being well heeled I could not move away. Millions of people live in dreadful conditions in this country and it is high time the government did something about it. Please do not blame the little boys parents for his death.
