Has ‘A Christmas Carol’ been overdone?

Tomorrow as December begins, I’ll start the Christmas books in my ‘to be read’ pile. But one book I always re-read is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I had a friend say to me, why? And I suppose they are right, I could always watch one of the many films, tv shows or Christmas Specials.
With the newest Apple TV holiday movie 'Spirited' retelling A Christmas Carol once again, in a modern way. It made me wonder, has A Christmas Carol been overdone?

A christmas carol is a firm favourite of mine, i love it in all its forms, so i would say no, the new spirited musical is well worth a watch1

I love it, but I could see the argument that it has been done a lot.
I wonder what kind of new Christmas story will be the go-to for Christmas specials, say, 100 years from now?
I love Octavia Spencer, so spirited is definitely on my to watch list this December

It is really intriguing to think about what kind of new Christmas story will be the go-to for Christmas specials, say, 100 years from now @Hannah_Scope.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this as well as the thoughts of anyone else who wishes to share
