Hello i recently got a decision of not being awarded PIP. Im signed off by the doctor regarding a very painful condition from an old injury to my hand. Im taking pain relief daily and do physio. I cant work and my doctor has advised me to rest and not work.
Really struggling financially and was really hoping to be awarded PIP.
Can anyone give me any advice on a mandatory reconsideration. I have the report from telephone assessment.
Any help really appreciated

PIP is not about your ability to work. You can challenge that decision by first requesting the mandatory reconsideration within one month of the date of the decision. You should put this in writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to ring up and ask for the mandatory reconsideration. Im just not sure what to say and how much i need to say. From reading the notes from telephone consultation i dont agree with them saying the pain is not bad more days than not. The pain is certainly bad everyday and im on the maximum for painkillers. Its hard to know what to say

There's good guidance / examples here, go through the Assessment line by line.

Fill in the form (CRMR1), leave it for an hour, re-read your form, make corrections, do it until you are happy with what you've written.

Highlight significant errors in the report but don't get bogged down it, that ill not get you an award. Focus on whether you have said enough about how your health impacts your ability to carry out the PIP activities and give examples of what happens when you do them (or attempt them).

Pay attention to part 2.2 on reliability.

You should put it in writing rather than ring to request it.

You are welcome @dan1. It is the very least you deserve.

Have you managed to start trying to read through all that and making notes next to each activity?

If so, I am just wondering how it has gone for you and if you would like to share a little more with us.

It sounds really difficult that it is complicated and already given you a headache just trying to understand it.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to support you with it. We are all here for you and listening to you :)

Thanks very much for your kind words. I'm happy to share my progress. I made an account with advicenow and used the Free PIP Mandatory Reconsideration Request Letter Tool which wrote the letter and emailed it to me.
I then rang up the PIP helpline and asked for a reconsideration over the phone. They asked me the questions and I used the letter to give the answers.
Was quite a lengthy conversation but got there in the end.
I decided against using postal services as I have had problems with post and talk of strikes could cause delays.
I received a text from DWP saying they were looking at decision again and should hear within 8 weeks.

MR timescales are up to about 12 weeks, rather than 8.

Yes, all texts say exactly the same.
