My question is can you explain what's my est options are,
lm registered disabled and have a disabled blue badge and on benefit. I live alone now but my partner and I had a civil ceremony few weeks now and helps me out with day to day things we live apart now He's on PIP and out of work. We're planning to live together quite soon.
He wants to register as my carer. Do you know the steps involved and how we can do this Thanks0 -
Hi and welcome
To claim carers you need to be receiving the daily living element of pip or dla
If he claims uc he just needs to report a change of circumstances and that he cares for you for at least 35 hours per week he doesn't have to live with you to claim
However if you get esa and get the sdp then this will stop if he claims carers
When you live together you will need to claim as a couple depending on what benefits you both claim will depend on what you will be entitled to
Pip will not be affected but other benefits could be
You could use a benefits calculator found on gov website to see what you can get0 -
Hi Janer, thank you.
He only claims PIP the lower rate. I
I get the higher rates of mobility and dla and UC and get housing benefits. As I haven't worked for years due to my disabilities.
Also How does it work. As you said he doesn't need to live with me to be my carer. If he's, my carer Will I need to report a change l on my UC or the council if he stays sometimes or if we live with me?0 -
If he doesn't claim uc then he will need to apply for carers allowance. Does he work ? If so he can only claim if he eaens under a certain amount per week
You are only classed as living together if he actually lives with you not just if he stays over . If he pays bills at another address and he uses that other address for post etc then you are not classed as living together
Without knowing both of your circumstances its hard to calculate what you would be entitled to if you live together try the benefits calculator0 -
He's not working. No
Nor am I
I get UC as I'm in a council flat 1 bed.
The circumstances is he worked as a carer until a few weeks ago. He luges outside London but since our civil ceremony. He wants o move to spending more time with me. He lives with his mom and has his council tax there which he pays for and he get pip the lower rate.
I get housing benefit come out my account and I get UC plus mobility allowance the higher rate and daily lying allowance and have a blue badge
This is our situation.
If moves in to live with me. How will this affect my income?
And does any one know if we nerd to add on my UC council this change and or how to go about it please?
How to get started etc.0 -
Soon he'll be using is car as my mainofe of transport so will have it change I think. Do jus worried about these things0

You would need to claim as a couple if he moves in
I'm no expert on what you would get as a couple which is why I said about the benefits calculator
I will tag in a member who knows more
Sorry @poppy123456 and @calcotti for the tag0 -
I have just noticed your other thread where you have had advice on this from those with more knowledge so I will leave you to get advice on the other thread0
