Dont forget the Carers!
With all the discussions regarding how the changes that Labour have announced to disability benefits affecting the sick and disabled I just wanted to point out that Carers will also suffer with all this.
If the PIP daily living change regarding the 4 points is brought into law and people start to lose their PIP daily living awards it will directly affect Carers as they will no longer be able to claim Carers Allowance which also enables them to claim the Carer Element of UC so a loss of over £550 per month combined!
It also wont just be the money that they loose that will cause issues but some carers have been looking after the person for many many, years so for them to be all of a sudden thrust back into the "looking for work" category without any sort of relaxed rules they could be put under severe pressure due to being pressed to find work! Many carers suffer from mental health issues among other illnesses due to the stresses of having to look after a sick person especially someone close to them, its not easy seeing someone you love suffer so much.
Some may think me mentioning caring for someone being stressful comes across in a bad way but sadly its the truth.
Its late and I'm tired and I have forgot some points regarding this so my post will not read very well but please remember that Carers will also be majorly affected with these proposed changes and they dont seem to have even been mentioned in the green paper!
If anyone can add a better view on this please do so.
Also @ scope please dont add this to ongoing threads as I think it deserves its own thread just to highligh the point, I hope you understand?

@ancojo , I just responded to a similar post and my wife sat next to me and asked me the same question. I agreee it deserves a thread on its own as I couldn’t find it referenced anywhere in the green paper. Hopefully, there will be further posts flooding from our lovely MODS and members later today. Hi @ancojo Being a carer for a family member is the hardest job I have ever done, and very stressful. It does not come across in a bad way at all.

oh gosh. That didn’t even cross my mind . I’m a carer for my husband. It is so hard seeing a loved one suffer daily. Let’s hope this awful government don’t get away with this. If I had to go back to work full time, I know my husband would go further into a decline as he cannot do much on his own and relies on me like many others in the same situation.

I agree, the impact of these changes will have a devastating effect on disabled and their carers who save the country untold £’s whilst being given a pittance of an allowance.

Hi @ancojo. It's a really really important point, thank you for raising. I do agree it does, although we do have to be careful, as we could say this about many aspects. I'll leave as is for now. Thanks again for sharing this 🙂

This proposal will be problematic for those who needs assistance for managing therapy or dressing their lower body, as these are 2 points each. Who will pay for the carer (the assistant) if they are not awarded ?
