DVLA SLEEP APNEA PIP MOBILITY

Hi, just diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and don't think I can drive safely.
I already receive pip mobility low rate for other ailments.
I'm worried now as I will have to tell DVLA who will no doubt remove my licence.
Do I stand a good chance of getting a mobility car for my carer to drive for me.
Has anyone experienced this situation.
Bless.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, PIP doesn't take overnight conditions into account, and this condition doesn't affect your day time mobility as far as I can tell. So there is no reason that you should be awarded Enhanced Mobility from the information provided.

Thanks but what if it causes day time sleepiness whilst at the wheel which it does in my case to the point where I am a risk.

It doesn't work like that I'm afraid. The PIP Mobility descriptors don't consider a persons ability to drive at all.
There are 2 parts to the Mobility section. One is simply about the distance that you can walk. The other is about your ability to plan and follow the route of a journey.
Do you know which part you scored the points in before? And how many?

Yes I scored 10 on the ability to walk more than 20 but no more than 50m part.

Ok, assuming your walking distances are still the same, you would need to fit one of these descriptors as well to get the Enhanced Mobility award. Essentially, you would have to prove that your new conditions make you unsafe to follow the route of a journey without another person.
