I have been asked to go on up from esa' firstly do I have to and secondly with my sap how can I compensate for losing that is there any alternative

Transitional Protection is added if your total UC award is lower than legacy benefits (which it likely will be as you get SDP).
TP does erode over time as other elements go up or new elements are added to the claim. It would stop entirely with a major change of circumstances such as swapping between a single/couple claim as applicable.
