Hii all im after some advice please

On the nhsbsa website it says

Who is entitled to help

You’re entitled to help with your NHS health costs if your total take-home pay in your last assessment period was either:

  • £435 or less
  • £935 or less if you get an element for a child or have limited capability for work (LCW) or limited capability for work and work-related activity (LCWRA)

If you claim UC as a couple, the earnings limit applies to the joint income of you and your partner.

Your earnings are shown on your statement as 'Your total take-home pay for this period'.

Now me and my partner have a joint claim with 2 children and carer element and I get the LCWRA element now on 28th Feb he was made redundant and the last period of uc statement ran from 15th Feb till 14th March and the total take home pay for my partner was £913.21 so it's says on the statement total take home pay for me and him is £913.21 now I rang to cancel my pre paid percription and they said we wouldn't qualify but couldn't seem to explain why surely I'm right in thinking we qualify at the moment whilst his out of work? As the take home pay for the joint claim was less then £935?

Thanks

    Hi @goldy1691,

I’m a disabled person and have been in the exact same situation regarding free NHS prescriptions. Unfortunately, I wasn’t entitled when my joint household income was around the £900 mark you mentioned. However, as my disability continued and I went onto nil pay, I did become eligible and I even received a refund for my prescription pre-payment certificate.

It’s a confusing system that I still struggle to fully understand. I was told that if my Universal Credit payment ever goes above £435 in an assessment period, my entitlement would stop, and I’d need to start the pre-payment process all over again.

    Best wishes!
