CANNOT WALK STRAIGHT

Hi Folks

I am in my late 50s and have right hemiplegia from birth. I also cannot walk in a straight line , so a person(s) walking towards me from the opposite direction can easily get confused.

Is there anything I can do in order to improve my walking, or is it too late considering my age?

Thanks for your responses.

Hi @Manjinder, do you still see a specialist of any kind? An occupational therapist might be able to help with this kind of thing. Sometimes they can assist you in finding equipment or aids that might be helpful for your goals 😊

Many thanks for you reply @Rosie_Scope

I have never seen a specialist since the age of 16. My doctor has never referred me to one. What is the procedure for requesting this and what type of specialist do I need to see?

I presume the NHS waiting lists are also very long?

Doesn't an occupational therapist just deal with issues in the work place?

I don't use any aids for walking. The only issue is that I cannot walk in a straight line

the only thing I could suggest is to try and get a GPs appointment and request a physio appointment

Occupational therapists don't just deal with workplace issues.

Physiotherapy is also a really good suggestion.

    Thanks folks

So do I ask my GP for a referral to an occupational therapist?

Can I go and find one directly?

You can go through your GP or contact adult services yourself at local council.

    Hi Folks

To give you an update …

I went to see a physiotherapist yesterday through the Connect Health service. He will be writing to my GP ad hopefully I will get referred to other specialists.
