ESA Migration Letter received with Transitional Proctection - advice needed

Hi everyone, Im new here and and my name is Jan,
My son received his ESA Migration Letter with Transistioinal Proctection. He is in the ESA Support group. I will be helping him complete the online claim for Universal Credit as he suffers with his Mental Health/Depression/Social Anxiety/Health Anxiety/Skin Disorder and does not cope well especially with any form of change. I will also be getting help through the CAB Help to Claim advice line.
I have been doing some research, in to what happens when moving over to Universal Credit and to be honest, I feel like I have gone down a rabbit hole! reading all the different, experiences and outcome from people who have moved over.
When my son completes the claim and moves over to Universal Credit, will he be moving over to LCWRA + Transitional Proctection payments that, will make his payment up to what is currentley receiving? or will he be moved over to the new style ESA + Transitional Proctection payments? I am just finding it all confusing. I fully understand there is a process to follow with the migration move, however Im trying to make sure he is being moved on to the correct benefit and his payments will remain the same as they stand at the moment.
Can I also ask about the ID interview, due to his mental health he finds it extremely difficult to leave the house. I beleive, he will have to attend the job centre to complete the ID stage. Ive also read he may be able to have a telephone ID check, however he does not have a passport or driving licence.
Its terrible the way this move is being done! it's just causing so much stress and anxiety to everybody.
Any advice from the online community will be greatly appreciated and apologies for the long post.
Thanks,
Jan

If his ESA is 100% Income Related, he will be receiving Universal Credit only.
If his ESA is Contributions Based & Income Related, he will be moved to New Style ESA & UC.
NS ESA will be paid fortnightly and deducted in full from his monthly UC payment.
Many people don't find out what their ESA award is made up of until they migrate.
If he currently receives SDP then under UC he will be worse off. This means Transitional Protection is added to his claim. TP is designed to top up a UC award if at the time of transfer, his UC would be lower than legacy benefits. TP does erode over time as other elements go up or new elements are added to the claim.
If he doesn't receive SDP, he should be better off under UC so no entitlement to Transitional Protection.
The basic elements of his claim will be Standard Allowance, LCWRA, TP if applicable and any Housing Element if he is claiming Housing Benefit.

I don't have any insight regarding the mechanics of how the UC benefit is formulated etc.
However, I am attempting to help someone through the migration, and I agree it is a nightmare.
Regarding the in-person ID interview, the person I'm supporting simply could not attend in person for multiple reasons.
We've completed the online application, and they've been given an appointment to attend at JCP.
Based on advice from here, I now have 'explicit consent' to manage all aspects of the application on their behalf. As an aside it was surprisingly easy to request/receive this permission - via a note on their journal!
Again, based on information on here, I have written explaining the circumstances that prevent the person from attending, and requesting an in-person at home interview, a telephone interview, or permission for someone else to present the documentation at JCP on their behalf.
Can only wait now for their decision! đ
Good luck going forward x
ETA: Other advice from on here/B&W is to ensure early on the journal to alert them to the fact the person is in the support group, has transitional protection etc. in the hope they are looking for this when they receive info from ESA (who, in my experience, are dreadful in how they administer claims/information - but that's another tale, for another day!)

Thank you for the all the advice very much appreciated. I have a better understaning now what he should be moving over onto.
Hopefully, with help from the CAB Help to claim to complete the online application. the move over may go better than I am currently anticipating âšī¸
Thanks again for the advice,
Jan
