Get your MP to act against cuts

This is an excerpt from a letter I received from my Labour MP:
'I believe that we need a welfare state that is there for all of us when we need it, now and in the future, that protects those most in need, and that delivers equality and dignity for all. There will always be some people who cannot work, and I assure you that they will be protected.
Around 1 in 10 of those who will be claiming Personal Independence Payments (PIP) at the point when the changes come into force will be affected by 2029/30.'
——————————————-An FOI request suggests that the new 4-point rule for the standard rate daily living component could result in nearly nine out of ten standard rate awards failing on renewal.
My MP's claim seems like a discrepancy, that just 1 in 10 people claiming PIP will be affected, when 9 out of 10 standard rate awards will fail on renewal under the proposed test?
Thanks

I think he his just towing the party line with this nonsense 1 out of 10 claim, he obviously doesn’t give a rats **** about the 1.2million who will lose out. It’s not even going to be fair assessments because we all know they will not award 4 points even if it’s deserved. I will never understand the madness behind this, what a terrible country this is now, the harm this is going to cause so many vulnerable people is disgraceful. Makes me ashamed to be a human being.2 -

Hi Martin. She actually completely ignored my letter, which was purely about the proposal
‘to merge ESA with JSA to make a new ‘unemployment insurance’ benefit, paid for a limited time’.
Do you think the MPs being lied to; or are they lying to us?
I meet the Govs 2008 severe conditions criteria for ESA, will never work again, they have that in writing from numerous doctors, including leading specialists, I have provided medical evidence proving I meet the criteria for entry into the support group under Risk and Mobility, but I do not believe I meet the proposed new 4 point rule.
I have a rare complicated multisystemic disease, (have been through 16 years of absolute hell) Ive only just, (finally) got access to ESA, last year. (After losing everything).
Up to 90% of patients with my disease were receiving delayed diagnosis.
(Cant describe how horrific its been)
If I were to try to work again, Id be collapsing, at first id keep trying to get back up, and then start collapsing again, going down for minutes at first, then comatose for hours, then days and nights consecutively bedbound, with increasingly serious very severe symptoms, etc, etc. They know this. Theyve seen it.
They wouldnt make a lame horse suffer and treat it so badly.
Are they genuinely Evil or highly ignorant? One wonders.

Hello Dav1D
I genuinely think they don’t care, especially the ones in safe seats. You have been through so much mate, I wish you and everyone else didn’t have to go through this, it’s cruel beyond belief. It’s also very insulting that they continue to talk down to us, they should just admit they don’t care, all this **** about morals and fixing a deeply perverse benefits system is nothing but a sick game to make them feel powerful, they love demonising us all. You Dav1D and so many others have more courage and dignity than they will ever have, would we treat vulnerable people the same as they are, torturing us slowly with these non stop attacks. We are better than them.
Take good care mate

What your MP wrote was what the Labour government will admit to. They want to minimise the bad effects of this particular proposal hoping that MPs, the general public and the disabled will accept it.
The Freedom of Information request has the CORRECT figures, where it emerged that 87% or nearly 9 out of 10 of all standard daily living claiments would not get an award for failing to get 4 points in a descriptor.
This is the sort of manipulative misinformation that we are trying to fight. We can't trust anything they say so we must all keep up with what's going on so we can fact check and challenge their claims.

Labour needs to come clean about the last reforms to the WCA. And the dodgy reforms to the WCA before that.
They need to be repealed.

Thanks again, @jul1aorways. The awareness, motivation, and support you’re giving to so many of our members across the forum in standing up to these ruthless benefit cuts is honestly amazing and exemplary . I’ve just managed to catch up on some of the posts-there were about 10 pages for me to catch up on the Green Paper thread! My poor brain is struggling a bit now!
Let’s continue to keep the momentum going. 🤗

Dear All,
If you haven’t received a response to your emails and are physically able to attend your MP’s local advice surgery, please consider this powerful option suggested by Dr Jay Watts (Psychologist) on the X platform (see Dr Jay’s banner below). It’s a valuable opportunity to respectfully urge your MP to vote against-or at the very least abstain—when the Green Paper proposal comes to Parliament in June.

@jul1aorways
Thanks as always, my friend 🤗.Hope you’re doing well too! I’m slowly getting back to reality after my Christian retreat to the Welsh countryside, and recovering from the physical stress of the journey. I gave a good rundown of the trip to our members Santosha12 in this thread, and went into a bit more depth with mw123 on a solicitor’s thread Catherine started. Apologies for not linking the corresponding thread here.
For the most part, the trip was worth it – it was reviving, though not without the usual physical constraints, fatigue, and flurry of pain. But the scenery and that fresh countryside air – I can still smell it! It really stayed with me. I also made some great friends, all disabled, and we’re standing in solidarity to fight this Green Paper proposal. During a couple of breakout sessions, we were offered counselling, which was really helpful.
Despite all the negative news we hear, we now have some clear direction to focus our anger. We’re all about lobbying our MPs who seem more concerned about losing their positions and cushy lifestyles than actually helping those who need it. At the moment, my emails are sitting in the inboxes of Angela Rayner (the deputy who turned rogue), Lucy Powell (Leader of the House of Commons), and a whole bunch of lords, baronesses, and other MPs – I won’t name them all, but trust me, there’s a lot! My key target right now is my MP, and I’m going to visit him in two weeks at his public surgery at the local library.
I’m really diving in now, focusing a lot on X and Bluesky. I even got labelled on X today(unsure if it was triggered by my MP🤔)– which is incredibly annoying – but I’ve got DPOs like Disability Rebellion watching my back. Anyway, we just have to keep doing what we do best – standing in solidarity and fighting this battle head-on. I’ve never, in my lifetime, witnessed a government that’s caused so much pain and hardship for vulnerable and disabled people.
Thanks again for all your excellent support and motivation, especially with all the health challenges you’re facing. Keep it up 👏👏.
We will rise above them all!

I wish there was a point in contacting my MP, but he has been significantly MIA since the election in pretty much every local issue.
He's also a Tory and was not overly helpful pre-election on the cuts being put forward then.

How annoying !!
Just keep trying to lobby him through different ways – social media, emails, whatever you can – and if all else fails, have a go at the tips above. If you’re able to, definitely try visiting him at his public surgery.
My MP’s the same – at first he hid behind the usual Labour rhetoric, pretty much sent me a copy-and-paste job of the party line. But when I got more personal and asked him direct, no-nonsense questions, he went silent. That’s why I’m now taking it to his surgery face to face!
However you go about it, just don’t stop… seriously, stay on his toes!
In Solidarity ✊

Eh, I have had many many interactions with my MP in the past (he has been our MP for over a decade) and for a while, in the early years he was actually quite supportive and helpful - but in the last few years he has just not been that way. There is literally no point contacting him on this - he is not responding to any of the local issues other people are raising with him, either. Some of which are also existential.
I would not go to the surgery. I have absolutely no intention of meeting with or seeing anyone from government face to face. Aside from it being hugely stressful to do that, I would worry about it far more than was good for me. While I am quite ok to mask for work, this would be a confrontational issue, which would make it very hard for me to challenge verbally. I can type much more coherently than I can speak on issues like this. So no, that is not an option for me.
I also don't really use social media. I find it mostly disgusting :/
If our MP had changed at the last election I would absolutely be contacting them. But that did not happen and as I said, current MP is basically MIA in any useful respect.1
