Trying to figure out how much UC I will receive.

Hello everyone - I have completed my migration to UC from ESA and have been trying to work out how much I will be getting. My first payment is not due until 4th June. I receive £978.60 per month in ESA and my Housing Benefit covers my £580 per month rent. I've Googled how much I should get and it's saying a total of £1004.70. How can that be correct? I thought that if I got my current rate of ESA plus the Housing Element to cover my rent,it would be £1,558.60. Have I now got to pay my rent out of my ESA? I was led to believe that I wouldn't be any worse off on UC,due to Transitional Protection. Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Google searches won't be able to calculate your individual Transitional Protection.
If your UC award is lower than legacy benefits, Transitional Protection will be added to your award to ensure you aren't worse off at the time of transfer.
TP does erode over time as other elements go up or new elements are added.

Ah right! Thank you so much for clarifying that. I was getting rather worried for a while there, thinking I was going to be over £500 a month worse off!
