Hi

Hoping someone could help me please ? I've just had my payment awarded for universal credit , i get paid next week , i have a deduction for Employment support allowance of £609.05 is this because i got my last partial payment on May 5th ?

My other question which im confused about is i have a telephone call to agree a NEW STYLE EMPLOYEMENT AND SUPPORT ALLOWANCE COMMITMENT. What is this for ? i thought that was for people from contribution based ?

I also have a note from the jobcentre that i should let ESA know i have moved to Universal credit, i did this as a migration , do i need to call them ?

Thank you

Lots of people only find out what their ESA award was made up of when they migrate.

Please read through this thread (click on the purple text View Post) which should answer all of your questions.

You do not need to let ESA know you've claimed UC because they already know. These are poorly worded automated messages, no action is required on your part and you'll probably get the same message again.

Sometimes I get it monthly for three months then not at all for 4/5 months.

Thank you for your advice , i read the thread, it's really strange as on my letters it always said income related, so i got myself in a panic. It looks like it's all ok then.

Hi @buttonbear1985 as @Kimi87 has advised it is very bad wording and I did exactly the same as you. I migrated in Feb 25 I too was under the impression I was just IR ESA but upon migration I was on IR and CB ESA it's very confusing at first, I was at a loss where to find help but I joined this site and it's been great Kimi is great aswell as all the other folks here at scope it's such a blessing to have found it. I've just got my 3rd payment from UC hopefully all going well it stays the same it's very confusing though at first I totally agree. You will be ok good luck!

ESA letters are notoriously difficult to understand!

Thank you i feel much better now , i was worried and flapping. I wrote in my journal 2 messages asking if payment is wrong and then asking why i had a call for ESA and that i thought i was income related. Can i delete the journals ? as i now know i am wrong and don't want to cause issues.

    You can't delete Journal entries.

You could add another stating you now understand and don't require any assistance.

The 365 day time limit for CB ESA only applies to Work Related Activity Group

My history is WRAG, then changed to IR ESA after 1 year, then moved to Support Group at which point my CB ESA reactivated and my award reverted to CB with an IR top up.

Might something similar have happened with your claim?

Did you also get moved to Support Group after more than a year of WRAG?

The ESA letters are very difficult to understand, you probably wouldn't be able to tell from them in all honesty.

There are a few ways to tell.

If you just got ESA (no PIP) then each December you were on CB ESA there would have been one payment which was £10 more (Christmas bonus not paid seperately but with your normal payment).

This is not paid with IR only awards.

If you were getting a P60 each year in April/May that's only issued with taxable benefits. CB ESA is taxable, IR ESA or PIP isn't.

The big one is if you went from Incapacity Benefit then this transferred to CB ESA with an IR top up if applicable.

    Same as me:

    Incapacity Benefit

CB ESA +IR TOP UP (WRAG)

ESA IR after 365 days (WRAG)

Moved to ESA Support Group = reverted to CB ESA with an IR top up.
