Hello, I am just writing to vent out my emotions-I work part time in the Health and Social Care sector and am in receipt of Carers Allowance as my daughter has a learning disability and autism. On the 18th of February I got paid an extra £70 for mandatory online training which , obviously, meant that my salary was above the threshold stipulated by the Carers Unit. I notified them of this change of circumstances via their online form. My last payment of CA was on the 10th of March. After the above mentioned period my salary was below their threshold. I have been calling the Carers Unit literally every week since March to find out when my CA will be reinstated-the only answer every advisor gives me is that the case is with the decision maker and that she/he has not made any decision regarding my case. Finally, in frustration, I even wrote to the unit but that too went without a response. It is now 3 months that I have not been paid my CA and I feel so despondent as even that little bit of money helps carers like me. Please can anyone suggest what I need to do now or has a tentative idea of how long does it normally take to reinstate it. Any assistance rendered would be greatly appreciated. Thankk you in advance.

Hey @helpinghands I'm so sorry they're mucking you around, that's very unfair of them to not give you a firm answer. I'm afraid it's not something I'm qualified to advise on unfortunately. I take it you've spoken to Citizens Advice? They'd be my next port of call if not.

Hello, Please can anyone advise me if possible. My daughter has a learning disability and autism, last week when I supported her for her annual health and disability review, the GP asked me if I had a Lasting Power of Attorney {Health and Welfare}. I started the process of applying via the government website. I then came across a section where it states that my daughter, as a donor, requires someone as a certificate provider and that the person has to have known her for two years. My question is, my daughter does not really have the capacity to make medical decisions for herself. From what I have read the certificate provider will ask my daughter if she is happy for me to make these on her behalf and then sign the form. Please is there anyone who can let me know what the process is? My daughter;s understanding about medical procedures or money is limited so how can she consent to having a POA ? I would appreciate any guidance and how to go about having this sorted out. Thanks in advance.

If she doesn't have capacity then she cannot give consent for POA.

You would need instead to make an application to become her deputy via Court of Protection.

Thank you so much for your reply, much appreciated. I really don;t understand why her GP and social worker asked me to have one made out. My daughter is verbal but is very repetitive and speaks about topics such as movies, cats and dogs and understands stuff like operations or procedures but does not understand why they are important. She normally just says 'yes' to everything someone asks her!
