A McDonalds restaurant(Arndale centre at Durham) has changed its 4 disabled spaces into spaces for drive through customers who are awaiting their meal. I have tried three time to get access to the disabled parking spaces (as a wheelchair user) i cannot get access. their was an empty space but as I went to drive in I was blocked by a member of staff who told me I could not park as they were need for drive through customers. When I challenged this I was told ' it was tough!' and I was not welcome!

Anyone else faced such a problem ?

    That is awful.

Wonder if you could write to Manager and look into Access Regulations?

    Best wishes

    A

Unfortunately muckdonalds can do what they like Stevecave, our only option really is not to go there.

The poor parking is only one of the reasons I don't!

Spreading the word is helpful though, other takeaways are certainly available around here and probably sell better food at a more reasonable price.

    Good luck

Well, it's certainly discrimination and it contravenes the Equality Act 2010 (see below). They have a legal responsibility to provide access and make reasonable adjustments. Take it up with your local councillor and MP, and seek legal advice on how to challenge them.

    Appalling behaviour.

You mean the Arnison centre? Was bad enough getting parked there anyway. I had a 'debate' once there with a guy who'd parked his company van in a disabled space.

That's Disgraceful. I would put a letter into the management and also contact your local council. When they put in building plans to local authorities, they have to put in accessibility requirements I.e. how many disabled parking places, which will be determined by the council planning department, not McDonald's In theory, those plans have changed. Have they notified the planning department of this, as they should have. They have made their building inaccessible, let your local council know .

This annoys and is wrong! Here in Huntingdon they have re-painted the carpark, they moved the disabled bays 2 rows back and put the parent with pram on the front rows! Their logic is probably that young families spend more money, i find it hugely annoying!

    #Wheeled Weapon,

Love the photo ! Sort of depicts how kids are developing a change of taste! due to my previous foe par, I have spotted the 'changed' photo. Technology can do some amazing things these days. Just a shame it is one of my pet dislikes as I rarely feel comfortable with IT. My neuro diverse conditions, coupled with being of an 'older' generation with poor IT skills, does not bode well with me and can also be very frustrating too.

    #Stevecave,

As all the above have commented on! Appalling behaviour ! Sincerely hope you take it further as this is surely a breach of the Discrimination Act 2010. The person who was rude towards you needs to have disability awareness and customer relations training.

Hope you get a response from Local Council.

Yeah, I can tell it's 'changed' (AI) too. I really don't like AI, it scares me. I even have extensions on my browser to block AI so I don't know how it slipped by. Mustn't have been wearing my glasses 🤣

    @Wheeled Weapon,

Hi, I agree with you, I don't like AI either! I have visions of AI becoming like in the film I Robot! Although people seem to think that it is "wonderful", it seems to me that it will destroy people thinking for themselves. Children today already rely 'heavily' on their Smart Phones, do their homework on their computers and almost everything else!

Whilst technology has brought society (as a whole) a long way and the advances with medical treatments etc, etc… The technology (and AI) has been eroding away social encounters and to some extent cognitive behaviour. At least you use the technology to be creative with your photos, that doesn't harm anyone! You have a real talent with that and 'good for you'!

Hope you have an enjoyable day and enjoy (if you have it up there) the lovely, sunshine and better weather.

Oh, I never use AI. I got that picture off Google. I'm surprised it got by as I have AI blocking extensions on my browser.

What we have currently is not true AI, we couldn't develop true AI as everytime we have tried it has turned into a psychopath and basically wants to destroy everything lol
