Im waiting for my migration letter from esa to uc, but have been really disturbed hearing how hard a time so many are having moving over.
Im in the support group and income related.

If you received housing benefit from your council, as soon as you claim for uc, that stops, even though a two week Run on is supposed to happen automatically, but its not and it just stops.
when you claim and your money is worked out including any transitional payments for being in a support group, thats fine, until you claim your rent, which often you will find isn't all payed as on Esa and is included in your payments, but was seperate on Esa,and once you do claim as you have no choice but to, thats classed as a change of circumstance to them, and wipes out the transitional payment that you got awarded so you wouldnt be any worse off.
They lied, and like my friend who has just migrated , she is nearly £400 a month worse off, and in tears with it all.
Its made me worry because as i stated I've not got a migration notice yet, but the same will happen to me once i claim, as she showed me there working out of itall, and im very anxious and worried now.
She has all the same circumstances as me, except for the condition i have..but to leave someone that amount of money down a month is just terrible and unfair in every way, and how can it be justified.Im interested to know what i should do as i will have to claim my rent like she did, and i can see it coming out as a nightmare, just as its turned put for her.

Would others please share there experiences of this, or what can anyone do about it, as we were not meant to be worse off but most now are clearly going to be.

    I’m going through migration at the moment and have received the 2 week run-on of both ESA and housing benefit. I did get a complicated letter from housing benefit that I didn’t understand but I’ve checked with them and it’s all fine. (They need to work on their letter writing skills!)

    Today I’ve had confirmation that my total rent will be paid monthly directly to my landlord as I requested alternative payments on my journal. I only have basic rent plus 1 eligible service charge, nothing extra, so it is my full rent amount. There is a 3 week gap in rent payments as UC is paid in arrears so I added some small amounts to my rent account some months ago to cover the gap. They’ve also confirmed that I’ll be paid twice monthly rather than monthly.

    Migration is stressful but so far ok and the people involved have been supportive. It’s not been the complete nightmare I thought it would be

    Hi hopeless,

    Your very lucky so far as my friend got no Run on despite qualifying, as she was on income related,which should of been done automatically, but instead her rent was just stopped, putting her in debt straight away, then once her money was worked out and a transition payment made, she thought thats ok., until the third uc payment, they then deducted her rent which she claimed for to the landlord direct, but then deducted her transitional payment off-to nil.so lost that.She also found out being paid every two weeks like she wanted is costing money being deducted for how the days of months fall. Her rent is around 159.00 plus she has to pay a 20 odd surcharge per week.It seems its going ok for some, but many are being badly treated through the process.
    Thats all why its a nightmare for her and she is down almost 400 a month.She doesn't know what to do, or how she will get by. Its such s big amount to lose.

    I live in the same building as her and will get my migration letter sooner or later,and am really worried snd anxious, all whats happened to her will happen to me.

    I found the citizens advice help to claim phone/webchat really helpful. They gave me tons of advice before I claimed and will support me until my first correct payment. I’d really advise you to contact them. The number is on the migration letter
