Woken up to a huge shock as my first UC statement is out and after deductions it's a whopping £162!!

I have migrated from IRESA with SG at the point of applying and was told at my ID appt I would receive Transitional Protection for 12 months.

Since then and only this week my ESA has now been changed to NS even though I have been on IR as stated in my ESA letters with no mention of CB anywhere including the annual P60 certificate.

I only found out last Monday about this as my ESA payment was due on Thursday so rang thinking it was an overpayment. I've not even had the letter telling me, either but something seems very wrong with how it's been deducted.

I'm sure I should be getting TP but don't know how to check this myself and online info is just confusing but also they've deducted TWO payments of 609 with NS for this last AP when it should be one as I've only had one payment not two this last AP.

I am utterly now in a state of sheer anxiety as I don't know what to do or how to go about fixing this as my health is appalling and it's adversely affected it this morning to say the least reading the statement but £162 per month seems very low and I've looked at other posts elsewhere to get a better idea and must in my situation are getting around £500 a month with deductions.

    Hi,

Can you tell us which legacy benefits you got before? If it was just ESA Support Group without SDP then you will be better off on UC so no Transitional Protection is added.

Transitional Protection is not limited to 12 months so we can't trust the information given to you at the Job Centre.

You need to add both NS ESA & UC together to find the total monthly income. So £162 & £609 gives us £771 per month, which is more than ESA Support group, but not as much as UC & LCWRA. So something is wrong here.

Could you post a screenshot of your statement so we can double check it? Cover any personal details if doing that.

I don't know about SDP it was something called Income Disability Guarantee which I have seen referred to as Enhanced Disability Premium.

Yes, I was foolish taking advances out etc but in hindsight it's better I did knowing now how low the first payment is and I had a feeling etc.

They dangle carrots etc knowing you've little to no money for 5 weeks (well, as it turned out only 4 but didn't know I would still get ESA etc).

Ok thank you, everyone on Support Group seems to have got EDP. That is different to SDP. You won't get Transitional Protection because you are better off on Universal Credit with LCWRA than you were on legacy benefits.

The reason the total seemed low when I calculated it above is because I wasn't aware of the £51.49 deduction for the Advance payment.

Now that I've seen that, I can confirm your statement is correct. Your total income is £823 which is exactly what I'd expect in your circumstances. 🙂

Thank you. I've just about come down from the sky when the text woke me up to a message in Journal and I had been trying to figure out what I should have got for months etc then all the changes etc especially the NS ESA which everyone I've seen in the same position can't understand how they are but apparently it's down to being on IB but that's 10 plus years ago.

Thanks for assisting now I just have to accept a new claim commitment as ESA advised me last Monday though no letter about it.
