Will my pensioner housing benefit be reduced if I work part-time?

Hi, new member here :)
I have just started to receive my UK state pension. As I don't have much in the way of savings, I will also receive about 584 pounds/month in Housing Benefit to help to pay my rent, Council Tax etc.
Now I have been offered a very interesting part-time teaching job (I was a teacher for 20 years). But AFAIK, for every pound that I earn from this job, my Housing Benefit will be reduced by a pound! Therefore, there is zero financial advantage in working as a pensioner.... Am I correct in my assumption, or is there some low earnings amount that is disregarded for a state pensioner receiving Housing Benefit? Thanks.

Hi,
The government don't really want you working as a pensioner. You are not included in their 'out of work' figures.
There is an earnings disregard for Housing Benefit. However, it's only £5 a week if you're single. It can be more in some cases, potentially £20 a week if you are disabled. I would recommend asking your local council Housing department or somewhere like Age UK who can offer better advice for benefits above pension age.
