ESA deduction

I was looking at my past statements on my uc journal and when I migrated I got a final 2 week payments. But when UC generated my first statement, they took back almost £70 of my final 2 week payment saying I wasn’t entitled.
I know it’s only £70, but seems unfair. Can I challenge this and get it back?

The 2 week run on isn't counted. But often ESA doesn't get cancelled quickly enough when UC starts. So chances are that £70 was a genuine overlap, separate from the 2 week run on. There's no harm in querying it through the journal though.

I left a note in my journal on 7th of July and only just got a reply. What does this reply mean? Feels like it doesn’t answer my question
Please note that any income from Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) is deducted from your Universal Credit entitlement on a pound-for-pound basis. This means that for every £1 of ESA you receive, your Universal

your universal credit is reduced by £1

I agree with you. That's just a generic response.
We already know the deduction was caused by ESA because it says that on the statement. What we need to know is whether that was caused by an overlap between IR ESA and UC, or whether they have incorrectly taken some of the 2-week run on payment.

What date did you apply for UC?
Before that date, when was your last ESA payment?
How much ESA did you normally get?
How much was your run on payment?

I submitted my claim on 11th of January, didn’t get my first payment until 17th of February and on ESA I think I got £326 every fortnight. I can’t remember my last payment as statements is playing up currently on my internet banking, so can’t check.

my run on payment was exact same amount.

Thank you, from the amount of overpayment taken they think you were overpaid IR ESA by 3 days.
A full run on payment would only have been correct if your last ESA payment was 10th January.

just got my statement up! My last payment was 13th of January this year.

So presumably you had full payment 30th December, then full payment on 13th January?
Was there a further run on payment after 13th January?
0 -
no, no payment after the January one

ESA is paid two weeks in arrears.
Run on payments can be difficult to calculate, which is why on the forum we advise applying for UC a day after an ESA payment, to help ensure the run on payment is for the full amount.
How much you get depends on where you were in your ESA payment cycle.
Looking at your payment dates I am inclined to think you were overpaid IR ESA and the overpayment deducted was correct.
Your ESA ended 11th January with the UC application, but you were paid ESA up until 13th January.
So there was in my opinion an overpayment as at that point (the 11th) you were not owed a full two week payment but received one on the 13th.

Ok thank you.
I wanted to query it, because they take money but never give a clear explanation.0
