Degenerative spinal stenosis

I have been experiencing severe stenosis due to the disc between L4 and L5 vertebrae no longer exists. The DWP pip assessment though says that I do not qualify for the mobility aspect of PIP, even though I cannot walk and have to use a wheelchair. Go figure.

Have you applied for PIP? Are you referring to your assessment?

I recieve the lower level despite being unable to walk, or even standing or more than a couple of minutes.

Thanks. If you have just had that decision you need to go with a Mandatory Reconsideration. Is this the position you are at?

Please fight them. I have degenerative disc disease at my cervical spine C4-C7. I have had 2 operations to decompress the spinal cord. I now have white cord syndrome and waiting to see if I need a third operation or a nerve block at C7. I have just had my review and my award increased from low to high rate mobility.

Hi @Jampa I'm really sorry to read this. A mandatory reconsideration would be the next step to fighting this decision. It must be submitted within a month of your decision. You can read more about the process on our website here - Appealing a benefits decision.

If you'd like some support with completing the paperwork, or just want to talk through the process you can speak with a benefits advisor at either Citizens Advice or Turn2us.

If you do decide to progress with a mandatory reconsideration, I wish you all the best. Please keep us updated on how you get on if you're happy to and shout if you need anything. 🙂
