Hi, my current PIP award finishes in July and I’m having a telephone assessment in 2 weeks time.
I won my original case via tribunal back in 2021. In the original first claim I only received 4 points and 0 points for the relevant 2 elements.
I challenged through the mandatory process but failed leaving with the same points.
After tribunal however I was successful and was awarded 11 points and 10 points.

My question is will the telephone assessment be treated and scored as a new case? or do they reference the original scores (4+0) or do they reference the tribunal scores of 11+20

Thank you for your help.

    Misread your post so edited:-

The review is treated as a new case, but the assessor can look back on your previous awards. Which one is hard to say unfortunately and I would think the tribunal points but not sure.

    Hi

In my experience it was treated as new review.

So, I had my telephone assessment today and it was 100% along the new claim line. Very detailed, in depth questions and on a couple of occasions I was asked same question at different points in the conversation! Clearly trying to catch me out. All in all quite a stressful experience. Just need to wait for the outcome, any idea how long for a decision?

Sorry to hear it was a stressful experience @Bignig, i hope you are okay. A pip review decision can take up to 20 weeks😊

Had a text message last week to say DWP have received the assessors report. This morning (only 3 working days after my assessment) had another text to say PIP review complete expect a decision letter in 2 weeks.
Don’t know if anything can be read into how quickly this has all gone??????

Waiting is horrible but I think speculating makes it worse so as the only facts are that you're going to get a decision, then that is that! However, I give that advice but I called the DWP PIP line after I received the same text and on the automated system they informed me how much I would get. However, they don't give a breakdown.

So! I wish you luck and I admire that you went through MR and Tribunal the first time. I wish I had so I like seeing succesful outcomes from those who do. Hope you get what you need.

I have my telephone appointment tomorrow morning at 9.00 am for my review after having to go through a mandatory reconsideration followed by tribunal to be awarded the higher element for both daily living and mobility. I am absolutely dreading it.

I received a telephone call today to confirm my appointment tomorrow and when I asked about my call being recorded and a copy being sent to me, previously requested in email, I was advised that there was no record of this and would now be a different assessor because of assessor having access to equipment.

I did send a copy of a letter from the hospital I received the other day to the email address that Maximus provided but was advised that I need to send by post to DWP so will be too late for tomorrow’s appointment for consideration.

I am concerned about length of call as I have to visit toilet frequently due to condition and am worried that I won’t be able to last the length of the call without going at least once. Can anyone please offer any advice? I would be so grateful as I don’t think I can go through mr and tribunal again (currently only weigh 5st 2lb and feel so weak to fight again just to have to repeat a year later if fortunate enough to win tribunal). I really need money to help pay for additional support needed and don’t know quite what I will do if if it stopped. I know that you shouldn’t learn to rely upon PIP payment but it’s impossible to pay for additional expenses otherwise. Thank you for reading.

my call lasted 1hr 15 mins so did take a while. I would suggest making the assessor aware at the start of your call of your needs for a toilet break. Can’t see there being a problem with that.
The whole process is so flawed and stressful. If you haven’t done so already make some notes beforehand so you can relate to the info at hand as it’s so easy to forget things when on the call.
Hope all goes well for you and hope you get the decision you deserve.

    @Mummy_In_Pain

    Firstly, welcome to the community.

I am truly sorry you’re facing such a difficult and exhausting process. It’s completely understandable to feel worn down, especially after all you’ve been through to secure the support you deserve.

You can record the assessment yourself, but you must tell the assessor at the beginning of the call. It's also important to let them know at the start that you’ll need bathroom breaks due to your condition. This is something they should fully expect and support. It really shouldn’t be an issue.

You’ve shown remarkable courage navigating the mandatory reconsideration and tribunal. Relying on PIP doesn’t reflect weakness, it’s a recognition of the real challenges you’re facing and the support needed to manage them. You deserve compassion, understanding and fair treatment.

Wishing you strength for tomorrow. I truly hope this time brings the outcome you so truly deserve, without the added stress of appeals or tribunals. If you feel up to it over the next few days, it would be lovely to hear how things went. Fingers crossed for a positive result. xx

    Thank you all for replying.

I honestly don’t know how it went to be honest, it seemed to be very drawn out with lots of repetitive questions that I thought were being asked to try and get a different response to what I had already given, therefore contradicting the information I had already provided but I might be wrong.

I did say at the end that I really couldn’t stand the thought of having to go through the whole appeals process again but no reassurance given, just answered “I don’t make the decisions I only send the report to the DWP”. Don’t get me wrong, the lady was very nice and polite but I don’t have any expectations of a positive outcome. I had a text within 2 hours of conversation ending from DWP to say that they were already in receipt of assessors report and would contact me within 6 weeks.

If they say the review is complete and you really feel you cannot wait for the letter as well as not asking them over the phone, then you might be able to get an idea by checking your bank, if a PIP payment date is sooner, that will give you an idea, there is also a mechanism on the phone line that will report the size of your next payment, but I dont know the options for it sorry.
