Review after a Year of waiting then Inhumane Capita Assessment

Good afternoon everyone,

Hope you all good as can be. I have not written on here for a while although have been keeping up with the antics of the recent Welfare reform bill and was writing to my MP throughout.

I have recently had a Capita assessment following a review that was started from August 2024. The review was done in 1hr 10mins the following day I received text from DWP stating they had received the report and that I should now wait for up to 6 weeks. I called to request a copy of the report and received this 4 days later.

Well the report was a catalogue of inconsistencies, word twisting, untruths, false statements and omitting vital information. After picking my jaw up off the floor, I literally went into melt down and spent the whole of the saturday either in tears or numb with shock and to be honest I am still in shock and feel really distressed after I sat for over an hour with a stranger sharing sensitive information about myself, felt so vulnerable and have to re-live horrible past trauma which is the reason for my two serious diagnosis and sit in constant pain because of my physical conditions, for this to be not taken serious and a fake report written by this Assessor that actually took 30mins to write this report is absolutely disgusting.

Mustering the little strength I have, I decided on Sunday I was not going to let Capita or the Assessor get away with this or it happening to someone else, with the help of my support, a five page report of my own was compiled stating all the of the inaccuracies contained within the report not to mention the vital information that was left out. I included the reasons why I disagree and followed up by a fully detailed view of my how my health conditions affect my daily life. Which was already done at the Review stage when i was contacted to complete the form Aug 2024. I also requested that an investigation be made on the Assessor, the Assessment and the Report.

I sent the complaint via email to Capita and printed a copy and sent to PIP DWP with evidence (that had previously been sent but thought just incase) This has been sent special delivery guaranteed next day before 1pm.

I called PIP explained the situation and that I understand a decision has not yet been made and nor can it be since it would be based on a false report which has been raised as a complaint. I was advised that these notes have been made next to my review this will show that a complaint has been raised regarding the Capita report. Thank goodness because my review along with that fake report is in the queue ready for a decision maker and that I should further call tomorrow to ensure the copy of the report and further evidence has arrived so it will be pinned together. Therefore should mean avoiding a Mandantory Reconsideration.I will update on the outcome.

Please try to get help if you run out of steam, this whole process is inhumane and not fit for purpose, I am literally drained now Good Luck to you all my heart goes out to you ❤️

Hello @KEE, I am so sorry you've gone through this, its just appalling. I would add shocking (which it is) but I'm not shocked as similar happened in my initial PIP assessment.

If it happens again at my Review I'll be putting in a complaint too, to the Assessor's Regulatory Body (ie NMC if a nurse) as some of them are not fit for purpose either.

I wish you all the best with getting the correct decision for you. Please take good care of yourself in the meantime. I can relate to how draining it is and how it has the potential to cause unnecessary and avoidable harm.

Thank you @Santosha12 much appreciated and sorry for your ordeal too. You gave me a good piece of information there regarding the regulatory body NMC because this Assessor was a nurse. Unbelievable. But once again thank you.

You're very welcome. Do take a look at the NMC Code of Conduct if you feel inclined. My Assessor failed miserably on each of the 4 main standards/principles: prioritise people; practise effectively; preserve safety and promote professionalism and trust.

I would have been able to demonstrate quite easily how she did nit meet any of the above but I did nothing about it. I would not hesitate if there's a next time as I should have held her to account.

By the way, there is a duty on the nurse's employing organisation to support their staff in upholding the standards (in the code of conduct) as part of the quality and safety expected. I'd therefore go so far as to say the employer is vicariously liable too, for a failure of them to do so.

Very warmest wishes to you @KEE

Much appreciated. Such informative information and something which I will be acting on.

I will surely be researching the NMC code of conduct and unfortunately I understand exactly what you had to endure regarding the process of the assessment. This mistreatment of people who are sick and requesting help, are then being quizzed inappropriately and a report written via an assessment conducted by a person who is not specialised in that field of medicine. Totally contradicts the departments request of providing numerous pieces of medical information regarding the diagnosis's from a Medical professional i.e GP's, Consultants, Specialists.

Best of wishes to you too @Santosha12

KEE, I am so sorry to read about your experience. Well Done on getting the complaint sent over to Capita. Also sorry that it happened to you as well Santosha12. Unfortunately, your experiences are very similar to my own: my report was like reading about someone else, and how I wish I had the life that person does! I really hope that your submission of the complaint results in you having a review outcome that better reflects your abilities. Unfortunately for me DWP used the Capita report, and in their response to my appeal justified their preference for that report over evidence from myself and my medical team from around the same time (the medical evidence contradicted what was written by the Capita nurse) was that the Capita report was the most up to date evidence at the time of the decision. I really hope you have a better outcome than I did, but be prepared that you may have to take this to appeal (as I am having to). It is heartbreaking to think how many people this is happening to and that some will not survive the ordeal. Also very scary to think that these assessors are 'qualified health professionals'.

    Hi @KEE

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m really sorry you’ve had such a tough time with the assessment. From what you’ve described it sounds like you are doing such a good job of advocating for yourself and you should be very proud of that. I hope you hear some updates soon😊
