Permitted work

in Universal Credit (UC)

Hello. I am being migrated over from esa to universal credit. Under esa I did permitted work where I attend meetings to give my mental health lived experience in a no pressure environment. I am paid for my attendance. How do I declare that under universal credit which does not recognize permitted work? I am not under an employment contract for this type of work.

    Hi,

    If you get paid by an employer then you should still put it down as employment, even if you aren't contracted for a specific number of hours.

    The alternative would be putting it down as self-employment instead.

    And it wouldn't Impact on the fact that I'm in the support group of ESA.

    You will be placed in the LCWRA group of UC in that case, equivalent to Support Group in ESA.

    There is no monetary or hourly work limit on UC LCWRA. They're only interested in the amount of earnings each month. You would have to declare your earnings every month, on the final day of your assessment period, even if you have earnt £0 in that month.

    If you have dual claim with both UC LCWRA and New Style ESA then you will still have to meet the permitted work criteria for NS ESA, separately from UC.
