PIP ending in November, no renewal date

Hi all,

I was awared PIP in 2022, it was cancer related and a MacMillan nurse filled everything in as I was in no condition to do it myself, it was put down that I had less 6 months to live, which was correct at the time, and I got a 3 year award that ends on the 3rd of November, however I'm still here!

I haven't heard anything so I called the PIP helpline today and was advised that my claim doesn't have a renewal/reassessment date and it will end on the 3rd of November and I will have to make a new claim!

I wasn't expecting that, so I was transferred to a case manager who advised that the information was partly correct, it will come to an end in November, but he will send the renewal forms today instead of a new claim.

This all sounds odd to me and pretty worrying as I'm hearing it can take several months for renewals to be processed.

I would just to know if the information I've been given in regard to the claim not having and renewal date and it will just end rather than being reassessed is actually correct.

I've emailed MacMillan to book a consultation with one of their benefits advisers, but any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Warren

    Hope your doing well :)

So if they have sent you a review form, you will need to fill the form in or get the Macmillan nurse to do it for you, its just a form to update them or your condition, if it has gotten better or worse. hopefully better :)

So they may extend your award until the review form is processed and a decision is made but they will normally send you a letter if they do that or not before your claim is due to end.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    I'm doing ok, thanks.

I was just expecting them to send the forms automatically or contact me to say my claim is ending soon and possibly give me some options, if I hadn't called it would have just ended apparently.

Hopefully I'll get the forms soon, then get them filled in properly, then fingers crossed they process it before November, if not and they don't extend it until it's reviewed I'll be a pickle financially ๐Ÿ˜•

@Wozza You got a PIP terminally ill award which is three years. Some awards are just for a set period and end. That said, you usually get a letter 3 months before it ends to let you know. Usually, you need to make a new claim if you still require PIP.

Are you still classed as terminally ill? As this may fast track your new award.

Treat the new forms, renewal or new claim, as a new claim and fill out the forms accordingly, best not to write "no change."

I can't comment further, a renewal or new claim can take months due to backlogs. Since your PIP claim was to end, I can't say you will still receive your PIP until you know the decision from the new review, though you will receive it until your PIP end date.

Good you can contact a benefits advisor.

    @Wozza

Reading back on what was said by the PIP representative, if the forms are renewal, your PIP payments may continue until the review is completed, but obviously I don't know for certain.

If the renewal is under the special rules for terminally ill, there will be less form filling and the claim will be fast tracked.

Otherwise as said above fill out both renewal or new claim forms as a new claim.

    Thanks for replies.

I currently receive the LCWRA payment as well as the PIP payment, and I hope the PIP continues if they haven't processed my forms before the original claim end date.

I'm no longer classed as terminally ill, thankfully!

I do have some permanent health issues, the main one being Dysphagia, I can no longer swallow and everything is via RIG tube, and I have recently been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis, my lungs have been roughed up by all the chest infections I'm prone to getting, not helped by the zero swallow function.

Plus a few other issues, but I'm still here, so I'll crack on as usual!

@Wozza Thanks. Good you are not classed as terminally ill now!

I wondered if you received UC and LCWRA but did not mention it as I only really know something about PIP. Hopefully your PIP claim goes through quickly. You have a few issues, but hopefully they are manageable. As you will know PIP is not about diagnosis, but how your disabilities affect your daily life. Full out the forms explaining your difficulties per descriptor. Actual examples are good - When you last tried and what happened. Best of luck too!

    Thanks for the advice.

I emailed the MacMillan team at UCLH where I have been receiving care. The lady that did my initial claim emailed me back and rembered me, I'm surprised as it was nearly 3 years ago!

She said if the DWP do send the review/renewal forms for me to fill in then she will book an appointment so she can help me with them, which will be extremely helpful.

Excellent, go to it! That's a great help and should reduce the worry of it all for you! Keep us informed how it goes if you wish too.

    Will do.

I just hope the forms drop through the letterbox soon so I can get cracking with it all.

    Just to update this.

A review letter and AR1 form dropped through the letterbox today.

It says I have until the 8th of September to return it, so exactly a month after the phone call with them, considering it's taken over a week to arrive, that leaves me less than 3 weeks to get some help with it and send it back.

So they can review cases like mine with an end of life award apparently, but only after I prompted them I presume, I've heard so many different opinions on this, but I'm just happy the form is here!

If you need more time you can request an extension, but do it before the end date obviously!

Funny you mention that, I just spoke with MacMillan and their next available slot in on the 24th of September and they advised me to call PIP and let them know when my appointment is and ask for an extension.

So I'll be on the phone first thing tomorrow ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
